My Indie setlist! Woohoo!

edited April 2009 in Your Ultimate Setlist
I'm bored at home with the flu, so I'm going to waste my time creating the Rock Band spin-off of my dreams. I know I'll leave stuff out by accident, so please suggest away!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS LARGELY AN INDIE ROCK LIST. I WILL BE INCLUDING SOME MAINSTREAM ALTERNATIVE BANDS THAT WERE A BIG INFLUENCE ON INDIE ROCK, SUCH AS SONIC YOUTH AND PIXIES.

That being said, the focus will be primarily on music from the 1990s and 2000s, with only the most important 80s alternative/indie bands and nothing from the 70s or before.

Now that that's done with:

1980s:
The Cure - "Fascination Street" (1989, Disintegration)
Dinosaur Jr. - "Freak Scene" (1988, Bug)
The Feelies - "Fa C

    great list!

    requested recommendations:

My Morning Jacket - Anytime, Run Thru, It Beats 4 U, Touch Me I'm Going To Scream (Part 1 or 2), Lay Low, Mahgeeta, Gideon, Aluminum Park, Remnants, Lowdown (One Big Holiday and Off The Record are already on the community Alt/Indie list * necker wasnt putting those songs in his list)

Coldplay: Shiver, Yellow, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face (lots of others, i'm sure Coldplayer will add some!)

    other suggestions:

Wilco - Impossible Germany, Side With The Seeds, (too many other good or amazing songs to name now)

Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings (i really should try to let this 1 go, if there is ever a RB3 it will surely be on it...right?!?)

!!! - (don't know if u like them, they're not for everyone) Must Be The Moon, Heart of Hearts, Yadnus

are u trying to include anymore 90's Alt/Grunge like STP, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Jane's Addiction, Nirvana, etc?

Still looking into My Morning Jacket, trying to find the best fit gameplay wise. I'm considering adding some grunge, and I'm all for more 90s alternative rock. I'm also trying to decide on an Oasis song. As for !!!, I'll probably add something from Myth Takes soon.

sounds good. my picks for Oasis would be Champagne Supernova or D'You Know What I Mean? i would give u some Explosions suggestions, but it's hard to place their songs when they're all instrumental and have crazy names.

if u're gonna add Explosions, u should add Battles too!

I forgot about Battles. I'll definitely add them. I really want to add Animal Collective, but I don't think anything of theirs would work at all.

I'm also considering adding some of John Frusciante's solo work... Possibly "Look On" from Inside Of Emptiness.

    New stuff:
    - Added A Life Of Possibilities by The Dismemberment Plan
    - Added Tractor Rape Chain by Guided By Voices
    - Added Atlas by Battles
    - Added First Breath After Coma by Explosions In The Sky
    - Added Champagne Supernova by Oasis
    - Added Enough by Cat Power
    - Added The Moon by The Microphones

    Good call.

Also, I added "Cannonball" by The Breeders. I need to expand on the 90s and 80s songs quite a bit more.

That's nice... Mind telling me why your limited knowledge of (or taste in) music merits giving my list the lowest score? Don't knock what you don't know.

You've basically missed the point of indie rock completely. Congratulations.

The point is, Harmonix should not waste their time on bands that absolutely no one knows or cares about when they could be spending their time adding more songs from bands that people will actually buy. Not many people at all will buy this, and therefore, its a waste of time and takes away from other people.

Some of those songs could be good, who knows, but its not for you to decide. You say they'll be good for rock band, but we have other people saying Soulja Boy will be good for rock band.

Indie rock does NOT mean "no name bands from myspace/my home town I listen to".

I voted "good" because it's actually awesome, but I'm disappointed about some song choices.

    But still great list.

About Mew's Am I Wry? No beiing from Half The World Is Watching Me - you are right, that was the first time it appeard on CD, but Half The World is Watching Me only came out in Denmark and Mew rerecorded the song for the worldwide release of Frengers. So, yeah, the Frengers version is even a little bit different with heavier guitars. I would take the Frengers version for the game.

The Stooges - Search and Destroy (1970s)
The Grifters - Parting Shot (1990s)
The Lemonheads - Rockin Stroll (1990s)

And somehow my creating this list means that I want to cater exclusively to fans of indie rock? I missed a step in the logic along the way there, perhaps you could show me where I, at any point said that this is anything but something I made for fun, or that this was a realistic list for a Rock Band game?

Also, I assure that there are no "no name bands" that only exist on "myspace/my home town." Just because you and perhaps your friends haven't heard of them doesn't mean no one else has. Every band on this list has had at the very least nationwide if not international success. In fact, I challenge you to find a single band on this list that is some "no name band" that only exists on "myspace/my home town."

Several of the bands on this list I have fairly limited knowledge of. If you don't like song choices, please suggest other ones. The only two albums of theirs I own are Wish and their self titled album.

    Okay, first, the Cure song:

    Fascination Street!!

    Love this song.

Then, bands where I would take different songs:

R.E.M.: It's the end of the world...
Pixies: Where Is My Mind? (I know, but the song is that good)
Blur: I love Think Tank, so anything from that album would be awesome. Especially Out of Time, Good Song and Gene By Gene. (I would take Gene By Gene I think)
Modest Mouse: Either Spitting Venom or You've Got It All(Most).
The Smashing Pumpkins: Tonight Tonight (just one of their best songs period)
The Arcade Fire: I would definitely prefer Rebellion (Lies) or No Cars Go.
Bloc Party: Has to be a Silent Alarm song. (But not Helicopter or Banquet) Price of Gas would be my first choice. Or This Modern Love.
Coldplay: Not Yellow again. In My Place is better. Or what about A Whisper?
Death Cab For Cutie: I'm already pissed that Soul Meets Body won the Alternative voting. I don't think it would be much fun. We Looked Like Giants would be the best choice for RB.
The Decemberists: I actually only know one song by them, so I'm a little bit sad you didn't pick it: 16 Military Wives
Interpol: Evil, NYC or Obstacle 1
    MGMT: Kids
    New Pornos: Bleeding Heart Show
Okkervil River: Our Life Is Not A Movie or Maybe - or: For Real
    Silversun Pickups: Rusted Wheel
Stars: I'm a huge Stars fan, Take Me To The Riot is okay, but I would prefer other songs. I would love Your Ex-Lover is Dead, but I actually think Window Bird would work the best.
    Starsailor: Silence Is Easy
Tegan & Sara: Monday Monday Monday (Argh, memories with that song... ^^ )
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Phenomena

You see, I love all the bands you've choosen but I disagree with almost all of your song choices. xD :p
