Runesmith's Rock Band 3 Setlist

RunesmithRunesmith Headliner
edited July 2009 in Your Ultimate Setlist
After working on this setlist on-and-off for the past few weeks, I think I have come up with something that is fairly solid in terms of both variety and quality. I also feel like the setlist is quite plausible: I could easily see a setlist like this happening in the next game with the way HMX seems to be progressing.

However, I do feel like my setlist leans sharply towards the middle difficulty tier on all instruments, with few super-difficult songs in sight. I would love to hear feedback from anybody willing to give it, especially if you have any suggestions for song switching, genre/decade distribution, or balancing the difficulty more evenly.

Great list! Nice variety in there, looks like everyone has something they can enjoy, and even seems realistic. My only complaint is that some staples of the series (artist that have been in both games) are missing, like Rush, The Who, Metallica, Soundgarden, etc.

Gotta hand it to you GREAT LIST Lotsa of songs I havent seen and some I have though I want Aerials on Rock Band as much as everyone else its chosen so much. I'd like to see "The Prison Song" thats an underplayed good song.

One of the best lists I've seen in a while. Love the variety, and it's awesome that you included The Seatbelts

Could use more 90's and 00's alternative/indie, and classic Prog rock though.

    This.

Also, could have picked a better Paramore song (maybe Fences or Born for This). And I know Jesus of Suburbia has a video somewhere. There was a short version and a long version.

Get a different Sex Pistols song...Holidays in the Sun is a rip-off of In The City by The Jam so might aswell put that song in there too

Nice setlist Runesmith, great choices overall. One suggestion though...

Helloween-Eagles Fly Free-I Want Out is their most popular song if I'm not mistaken, but I think Eagles Fly Free would still go over well and fit the game setlist. A lot of change up in the song, and the solos(guitar and bass too) would be great fun to play.

This is a bit late, but I wanted to thank everyone for the compliments and suggestions.

I intentionately left out bands like Rush and The Who to make way for bands that have never been in Rock Band before. Those bands could still come as DLC, though. :)

I love The Jam more than the Pistols, but Holidays in the Sun was recorded almost an entire year before In The City was. I'd kill to get anything by The Jam into Rock Band, though. I debated putting The Modern World or Going Underground into my set, but I thought The Jam were better served as DLC.

I Want Out is the only Helloween song I've ever heard before, so that's why I chose it. :p After listening to Eagles Fly Free, though, I think it would be a better fit for the game than I Want Out. I'll sub it out. Thanks for introducing me to it!

I think I covered alternative very well (Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Third Eye Blind, Fishbone, etc.), but my indie selection could definately use some work!

Also, I wanted to make sure I had a nice balance of deeper cuts and huge hits, which is why I chose Misery Business.

Taking a cue from afterstasis' setlist thread, I'm going to periodically add in DLC weeks as a means of offsetting the imbalances in my original list. Please feel free to comment on these, as well.

    Week 1:

    Rockabilly Pack 01
Johnny Cash - One Piece At A Time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDU8Gku7q-w)
Chris Isaak - Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaXwflLK3L8)
Stray Cats - She's Sexy And Seventeen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAtFSecKByE)
The Polecats - Make A Circuit With Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA4foTap-WQ)
Dave Edmunds - Girls Talk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10Y6QZ9dGCk)

    Singles
Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMICD3aMZpw)
Iron Maiden - Wasted Years (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwB9zg7Tbx8)
Faith No More - Midlife Crisis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIuOWv-mLP4)

I'll be honest. Is it possible to have to much variety? HMX would never release that. Outkast, the Temptations, Bob Marley, etc. would pretty much be guaranteed to be dlc. I'm not saying I'm against it, but I highly doubt that would ever be a setlist.

For me? No. Genre variety is something I thrive off of. Lack of variety is one of the reasons why I disliked the GH:WT setlist. :p

I do think that HMX will start to include non-rock music in their on-disc setlists, however. RB2 introduced several new genres like shoegaze and grindcore to the game; I don't think it's too unreasonable to expect reggae or Motown in the future, and we already have had on-disc hip-hop songs via The Beastie Boys since RB1.

Agreed. They're putting Snoop Dawg on it so its not unreasonable to think these songs can be put on.

I had to resist putting more New Wave in the game because I know it's a somewhat polarizing genre. Berlin, Oingo Boingo, and the Tom Tom Club will just have to give me my fix until I can sneak a New Wave pack or something into the DLC. :D

I agree. My indie (in regards to the Arctic Monkeys) selection is severely lacking.

If the Beasties can get on disc, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to see hip-hop artists that use live instrumentation like Outkast, Swollen Members, and The Roots in the next game. :p
