Regarding the Forum Activity of 4/1/09

edited April 2009 in Less Rokk More Talk
Hey gang,

First off, let me apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered while trying to post on RB.com today. It was not our intent to have people blindly navigating unreasonably censored words ("guitar"? hardy har), or struggle to decipher the mess that was these forums over the course of the day.

It appears that our mods got a little over zealous in their prank, and took things way over the line. A few semi cute word filters is one thing, but I've been working with the Web Team since 10:30am this morning trying to find away to get us back into our admin tools (which is why you didn't see any of us posting after I got the Star Trek press release up this morning).

We gave our mods a lot of leeway and put a tremendous amount of trust in them, and more than the frustrations of answering phone calls from angry posters all day or soothing rightly angered artists whose press releases had now become a censored hack job, it hurts to have that trust betrayed. Their actions went far beyond that of a harmless prank and drifted into an incredibly damaging PR disaster.

At the end of the day, HMX is a business and the forums are an important part of that structure. When you have the cashiers locking the managers out of the store and doing whatever they want with the displays, then you start having problems. So we've had to do a bit of "down sizing".

Don't expect to see any of the mods posting here any time soon, if at all. We've already made calls to them after consulting with members of the legal department, and we'll try to reach some kind of amicable settlement. But I still can't see myself willingly handing the reigns over to any of them after the kind of reckless and irresponsible behavior I saw today.

Again, on behalf of the HMX Community Team, I'm sorry for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused any of you. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me a PM and I'll do the best I can to address your concerns.

-HMXHenry

I'm with my doppelganger here. I can see the possibility of the repercussions such actions could have, but also doubt something of this magnitude would be posted in General as opposed to Announcements. So for now I don't believe, but tomorrow will tell :D

If this is a joke then it betrays our trust in you henry.

    I quote your coworker,

"Social experimenting on our forums is directly contradictory to this. It carelessly takes advantage of the trust we put in one another on these forums, a trust that has to exist for this URL not to devolve into an all-caps free-for-all shouting match of unbridled rage and disrespect."

Volunteer Mods having the ability to edit the censors on the site? Yeah...let's just say I'm skeptical.

We're seriously rethinking the whole volunteer mod thing after today, but I'll keep the offer in mind. Thanks.

Posted in GENERAL only eh Henry?

    Ha ha nice try :)
Since most of the mischief took place in General, and this doesn't actually have anything to do with the game we make, I think this is the right place for it (especially considering we're already trying to downplay the events from earlier today... I, personally, cannot wait for April 2nd).

Glad to know it's taken care of, and i'm here to help. As i have no life anyways. haha
Thanks for being a responsible poster. I'd appreciate it if you could change your avatar back. It'd be outstanding if everyone else could switch out their mod / dev appropriated avatars as well. I don't want this causing any more confusion that it already has. You'd think Sean's post about Social Experiments from last week would have prevented something like this.

i'm sayin, most of the people here were also probably people complaining, and the ones who were abusing the censors, which is what they now have to go back through to fix, every single time, so this is the most logical place to post

That's not my dealbreaker. I've been a mod. But it's pretty obvious that it's an April Fools joke.

either this is a really good april fools joke, or a really bad thing happening to the forums.

while i was here in the early morning for the beginning and never saw what happened later, it was super annoying dealing with all the super cleverly "funny" people on the forums. More of a pain in the ass that has now apparently blown way beyond the scope of "ha-ha" funny. Sad, really.

I can't believe I missed all the fun on the forums today. I for one must have a life then, now is one of those times I wish I didn't.

I don't think this is a joke though. Henry seems pretty serious.

    No Problem.

Done Deal. I liked your avatar, I liked having it for the time being as i did.

Just saying if you do need a temp mod. I'd be willing to do so. I have the experience of being one. I was the first mod of the Hawthorne Heights forums. Before they closed the forums due to the severeness of the porn bots. Man it was a terrible 3 months.

i second this. BuRn7 CaK3 would make a great mod, and he could be a mod until the mods get un-banned or we get new mods..
