Qman's RB3 Setlist (72 songs + 16 Launch DLC)

edited May 2009 in Your Ultimate Setlist
Pulled this together in about twelve semi-continuous hours. I made it from a combination of songs I'm astonished haven't shown up yet, songs that seemed mainstream/popular enough to be obvious choices, songs that were consistently popular in their bands' official DLC threads, and a couple songs that were in Guitar Hero.

I had a fairly solid idea of which bands to use, but I got lots of help from some friends on AIM with picking specific songs. And the aforementioned songs that were popular DLC picks for those bands.

Bold = freshly added, as per norm.

A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away)
Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like A Lady
Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
The B-52's - Love Shack
The Barenaked Ladies - One Week
Beastie Boys - Intergalactic
Beck - Loser
Billy Idol - Dancing With Myself
Black Sabbath - Iron Man
Blink-182 - I Miss You
Bon Jovi - You Give Love A Bad Name
Cake - Short Skirt/Long Jacket
The Clash - London Calling
Coldplay - Violet Hill
The Cranberries - Zombie
The Cure - Friday I'm in Love
David Bowie - Life on Mars?
Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
Dropkick Murphys - The State of Massachusetts
Econoline Crush - Sparkle and Shine
Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance
Filter - Hey Man Nice Shot
Foo Fighters - All My Life
Garbage - #1 Crush
Genesis - Land of Confusion
Green Day - Minority
Golden Earring - Twilight Zone
Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta
Incubus - Pardon Me
Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes to Midnight
Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
Kasabian - Club Foot
The Killers - All These Things That I've Done
Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
Linkin Park - Faint
Limp Bizkit - Rearranged
Lit - Miserable
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird
Men Without Hats - The Safety Dance
Megadeth - Sweating Bullets
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning
Muse - Knights of Cydonia
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle
Nine Inch Nails - Head Like A Hole
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Oasis - Champagne Supernova
Our Lady Peace - One Man Army
Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)
The Police - Every Breath You Take
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Radiohead - Just
The Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated
R.E.M. - Stand
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil
Roxy Music - Love is the Drug
Rush - The Spirit of Radio
Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch
Slayer - Angel of Death
Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings
The Smiths - This Charming Man
Soundgarden - Rusty Cage

Supertramp - The Logical Song
Talking Heads - Burning Down the House
Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life
Van Halen - Runnin' with the Devil
Weird Al Yankovic - Albuquerque
The Who - The Kids Are Alright
XTC - Making Plans For Nigel
ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man

Also featuring a bunch of launch DLC tracks, so I'd have a place to put the stuff that almost made it in but didn't, or got demoted from the game proper at some point after making the thread.

3 Doors Down - Kryptonite
Aerosmith - Dream On
The B-52's - Rock Lobster
Cake - The Distance
The Clash - Rock the Casbah
The Cure - Fascination Street
Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough
Dio - Holy Diver
Disturbed - Voices
Dream Theater - Pull Me Under
Evanescence - Bring Me To Life
Everclear - Wonderful
Fall Out Boy - Thnks fr th Mmrs
Green Day - Basket Case
Incubus - Wish You Were Here
Muse - Map of the Problematique
Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
R.E.M. - What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
Rush - 2112 Overture
Queen - Killer Queen
Smash Mouth - All Star
Soundgarden - Outshined
Sum 41 - In Too Deep
Talking Heads - And She Was

So! Tell me what you think! I did my best to balance genres and decades, and to include the bands that had songs in both RB1 and RB2.

EDIT: Took out two songs that were already/soon to be DLC and one that was in there for stupid reasons. Swapped out the Green Day song and moved Basket Case to the launch DLC.

    Here are my thoughts:

Alice Cooper's School's Out is being released as DLC this coming Tuesday. Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) is already DLC.

You need to change the Styx song. The Grand Illusion would be so much better.

I love your Dream Theater choice, my fav song from them :)

Overall though I think your list lacks metal~ and some lesser known artists~ 72 songs is very little

*facepalm* Damn damn damn damn damn.

I honestly don't know that many Styx songs. Just that one and Blue Collar Man, the latter of which is already DLC.

Also, I was aiming for more songs than RB1 but not necessarily as many as/more than RB2.

That's even more of a reason not to put a song like Mr. Roboto on your list.

Just listen to The Grand Illusion => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW8TlrYhBxk

Do you have a more specific opinion than "it's crap"? Which songs do you not think are crap, out of sheer curiosity?

Also, re: lack of metal - I don't know a lot of metal bands. I'll try to rectify that and get more metal in there.

No timmay doesn't. Anything that's not in his pathetic wishlist of no-name crap is junk to him.

On that note, remove Limp Bitzkit please. Then your list won't fail.

I am aware that Limp Bizkit is faily -- probably wouldn't have included it at all if I wasn't trying so hard for balance (read: including some faily bands because they're reasonably popular) -- but that's the one song of theirs that's actually half-decent, at least in my opinion.

Also, to address the bit about lesser-known bands: My tastes have two settings, 'various flavours of mainstream' and 'ridiculously obscure'. Since I was going with what I knew, and omitting the latter category... you see the problem.

And I really don't get what your problem is, timmay. Seriously, that's not an insult, I'm honestly baffled. I looked at your RB3 picks, and a lot of the bands and even some of the songs overlap with mine.

Yeah, it's a decent song, but I lost my mind for a minute there and could only think of about three Green Day songs. (I gave serious consideration to giving the slot to "Longview", but nixed it on account of the subject matter. Figured that'd be stretching the T rating too far. Am I being paranoid?)

Swapped it with Minority; that seemed like more of a classic Green Day song.

Just saying, but you have Love is the Drug by Roxy Music on there. That's bleeding with sexual innuendo (By the way, that and Zombie are the only songs I have in common with you in terms of setlists. Odd how it's the song I wasn't expecting to be chosen at all) I say if the song is able to pass through the radio, it's able to pass through anyone able to listen. Longview is a radio staple around where I live, but I think your Minority choice was better in my opinion.

There's some things I liked, and others I didn't like too much. Of course, Love is the Drug is my favorite one, so much so that it's also on my list (though I'm wondering if it's a good idea to have it on their what with the whole song is about getting it on. Gotta learn someday, I suppose...). Personally, I'm tired of the Logical Song, and I think it'd be too boring to play (again, in my opinion). Also, I don't think it's very varied; it's always nice to have songs that everybody knows, but go for stuff that's a wee bit obscure in some tastes to make it more interesting. Though, as I said, I like some of it.

Timmay: It amuses me that you think Filter is terrible but not Fall Out Boy, firstly. I picked most of those bands because a) they were popular (or those particular songs were) and b) specifically, Evanescence had a female singer (I think I've only got two other songs for that, which is below average) and Disturbed was metal, which I was lacking in. I probably didn't need more metal after adding three other songs by classic metal bands, though.

I'm not particularly attached to half your picks for Most Terrible Band, but, regarding the other half...
    1. I happen to like Econoline Crush. That one's staying. (If that makes me self-indulgent, so be it.)
    2. I only know one other Filter song and have no strong feelings about it, so I can't really say I'm a fan of the band, but I like that particular song a lot.
    3. I've already gone over how Limp Bizkit is normally terrible but that one song is pretty okay.
    4. I don't actually think Linkin Park makes bad music, but yes, they are embarrassingly emo. However, they're popular enough to merit inclusion (see also: RB2), and that one song didn't have big stretches with no guitar, unlike the others I tried first.
    5. I was looking for a Blink-182 song for niche-filling reasons, and everything else that I wanted to use was already DLC. That particular song is a major departure from their usual style, too.

Alright, good points all around. (I can see what you mean about the Logical Song, although I'd personally play it a lot anyways just because I like listening to it.) I'll stop being paranoid about the rating now. (Come to think of it, there's already songs in the game with similarly iffy lyrics, so... there you go.) Of course, when I was being paranoid, that song slipped through because I didn't bother looking up the lyrics. Another of the little fails that marked the original construction process.

In particular: Yeah, you're not the first person to point out that it's too uniformly mainstream. I'm trying to fix that, but about 70% of it is a mirror of my own music collection, which has nothing between "mainstream enough for radio play" and "hyper-obscure"; I'm not sure where to look for bands that are merely lesser-known.

That, and I was kind of semi-consciously aiming for mainstream; a lot of the time, I based which song to use, when I'd already chosen a band, on which one was most popular/widely-known/iconic. (To use a specific example, that's how "The Logical Song" won out over "Breakfast in America".)

That one was another dumb choice, honestly. I just grabbed the only song I remembered hearing. Should have looked at the Fall Out Boy thread like I did with the other bands I don't listen to, but everything's obvious in hindsight...

tl;dr: I've got enough choices I'd actually stand behind to cover what's popular. Thus, I'm gonna throw out the ones I picked just to pander to the masses.

I didn't mean to doo-doo on your choices if I have done so, Mr. Qman. Nothing is wrong with (almost) any of those bands (I don't know how some of them will work in Rock Band, but good nevertheless). Honestly, there's nothing wrong with going for the mainstream; in fact, it's probably a good idea to have mostly well-known bands and songs of anthem proportions. I hope your setlist gets even twice as badass! Godspeed!
