Helloween, Accept, and 3 Inches of Blood. Accept are primarily thrash/speed metal, but eh...they're still awesome to listen to when you're playing a game of D&D.

I like the song about the 12th level wizard who uses his wand of magic missiles to slay the vicious chimera!

The best power metal I've heard is definitely Hibria.

...and nothing beats Quorthon voice in terms of epicness.
    Blood Fire Death - Bathory

How can you put four adjectives in front of 'Metal' and only come up with one real genre?

I would like to second the 'nerds,' but less contemptuously. More as a fraternal cuddle.

    Eww...
Well, a song that feels kind of "Fantasy/Legendary" would be Holy Diver. That's really all I can come up with. Don't really like Power Metal.

how can you say helloween is primarily thrash/speed. Them and stratovarius are the founding fathers of power metal :s

on a seperate note wuthering heights destroys most of these bands. And the lyrics rival most of what is being written today. But I could take an entire Rock Band of Gamma Ray!!

Want a more Sci Fi/Fantasy slant... go prog metal with Ayreon especially when you consider all the albums put together are one huge story, but the albums themselves can stand alone.

    Mirror Mirror - Blind Guardian
(If this counts) Beyond The Dark Sun - Wintersun
(If this counts) Winter Madness - Wintersun
The Pharaoh Sails to Orion - Nightwish
(If this counts) Revelation (Divus Pennae Ex Tragoedia) - Symphnoy X
(If this counts) The Turning - Symphony X
(If this counts) The Divine Wings of Tragedy - Symphony X
(If this counts) The Oddysey - Symphony X

    That's a good summary

ah good suggestion. But they wouldn't be all that interesting cuz there is some guitar but mostly there is a hodge-podge of instruments and or sound effects.

However Day Sixteen: Loser....... Hell Yeah lets get that.

I'm guessing by "Fantasy Metal" you don't mean a real genre but rather songs with fantasy lyrics? In that case, the a good part of doom metal would qualify.
