They aren't post-rock in the slightest.

NME said that. They're even worse than Rolling Stone when it comes to actual music facts.

I do remember in an interview somewhere that John Lydon was saying how they were post rock....so theres another reason, although Green Day calls themselves punk too so they aren't always right about their own genre

i'm a pretty big fan, most of my favorites being from the constellation records camp (GYBE, a silver mt zion, do make say think, etc.).

public image ltd are associated with being one of the early post-punk bands, not post-rock.

you should check out the Moving Mountains song and see what you think :)

also welcome are recommendations for the OP of Post Rock songs that you believe should be appreciated by the Community :)

i've got that moving mountains album... it's got some pretty good tunes on it. :)

you should post some early post-rock in here, such as slint, talk talk, and disco inferno...
also, it would be a crime to not include some of the chicago bands like tortoise or gastr del sol.

awesome!! :D i'm going to see the at the end of the month

yeah, i'll add more later, if you want to recommend a talk talk song, because i haven't heard much by them, go for it.

i've only recently been getting more and more into Post Rock and i think creating a thread like this will help me and others "appreciate" (i feel like i'm using that word too much) the genre more.

Favorite post rock band: God Is An Astronaut
Band that should be more well known: It May Never End

i can help... i've been listening to this stuff for a little over a decade.

as for talk talk i'd go for either ascension day or after the flood, though almost anything from the last two LP's would work beautifully.

Just to say, Flowers of Romance by Public Image Ltd. is considered an early example of post-rock, just that album. Anyway, I like some post-rock like GY!BE, El Ten Eleven, The Letter E, FMTM, East North, and DMST.

Does Rodan's Aviary count as "proto" post-rock as well?

i get very few even slight post-rock vibes from "flowers of romance"...
then again, maybe my hatred for the group is blinding me. i can't help but just think "pathetic attempt at avant-garde" anytime i see their name.

gowie, i've never heard anyone else make the rodan/post-rock connection, but i agree they'd fit in to that group pretty well.
