This is great news for everyone involved, and great news for the charity.

Although, I must say that I am somewhat amused when I read (from the XBL dashboard, if I recall correctly) the MSP amount (as opposed to the $ amount) being mentioned as what's going to charity. I could just imagine this conversation:

Doctor: "Nurse, we need money for more medical supplies. Did that donation from that Beatles song come already?"

Nurse: "Yes Doctor, they gave us 1,000,000 MSP!"

Doctor: "What can we get with that?"

Nurse: "Shadow Complex, Castle Crashers, and 6,235 avatar shirts!"

    I have it! Expert/hard vocalist, gamertag liquidsnake97.

Back on-topic, that's great news. If they can make that much from just 360 sales, factor in two more consoles, and we have a very happy charity.

I have it. Can't seem to get a full band together that has it, though.

I guess we can expect Activision's rebuttal stating that every piece of DLC they've ever released has outsold All You Need is Love 4:1 any time now.

Wow. I expected the game to be pretty huge, but somehow... that was a surprise. I know it helps that it is the only song available, but still. If this continues once Abbey Road is released, I will be astonished if we don't get some newly announced singles by Christmas.

And again, if I were Harmonix, I would be begging to get the rights to release a few songs between now and October 20 to keep the buzz going.

Is it just me, or is the wording misleading? Let me quote:

Microsoft has announced that "All You Need is Love," the first downloadable song for The Beatles: Rock Band, became the fastest-selling tune in the franchise's history within the first two days of availability.

It would be, since it's the only dlc song in the franchise, isn't it? Since The Beatles: Rock Band is a separate franchise.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt of not being stupid enough to make a claim like that when they obviously know this is the first DLC song for The Beatles: Rock Band.

I'm sure they're talking about Rock Band as a whole.

You're probably right. Still, the wording seems kind of, well, carefully chosen.

Anyway, the song is actually selling well, and that is good.

Since the title of the article is "'All You Need is Love' becomes fastest-selling Rock Band song", it's clear that they are not dissembling.

TB:RB is not a franchise as such, it is a game within the Rock Band franchise.

Regardless, thens of thousands of dollars so far is nice to see! Add in the $17,300 someone paid for that custom TB:RB XBox (equivalent to 8,650 song downloads) and you're talking about a lot of good.

It bears noting that someone could get their console done up like that for a lot less, of course. :)

They should add more charity DLC. If I might make some suggestions:
    Hey Jude - St. Jude
Baby You're A Rich Man - March of Dimes
Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey - Gorilla Fund
Piggies - National Police Defense Foundation
    Lady Madonna - Catholic League
Happiness Is A Warm Gun - National Rifle Association
Strawberry Fields Forever - Natural Resources Defense Council

I have a question about this though. What exactly does it mean by "fastest selling?" I mean do they have some sort of download figure that they look for all DLC to get to, and this was the song which accomplished that # the quickest? Or something else? It's pretty easy to understand "most downloaded song," but something like "fastest selling" doesn't make much sense on its own.

Unfortunately no. You'd have to buy Viacom shares. And that would be problematic given MTV's current fall TV lineup.

Great to hear that it has done so well. We d/l it even before picking up the game, of course. I will d/l Abbey Road really fast, too. ;)
