I did catch a few minutes of the national news on our local PBS station this evening and the reporter was commenting about video games as a whole being down about 30% this year. The recession has really cut into sales. It's a running joke over at Joystiq about how many games have been pushed back to Q1 2010 due to the economy. I think many developers/distributors have given up on Christmas and are hoping that tax returns will help with sales.
