Tribulation's The Horror not even worthy of honorable mention? No mention of From the Womb to the Tomb? Or Black Future? Or Absu? Or The Holy Open Secret? Or Degeneration? Or Spirited Migration? :(

i actually had "from the womb to the tomb" and "absu" in there, but had to filter a bit out since i know i'll be lucky to have more than five people actually read through the entire post as it is. :)

though i won't say this was the absolute best year for music it was definitely up there.
i listened to at least 500 albums and enjoyed a very huge percentage of them.

A quick scan I noticed the new Magma album in the list, not Isis or Pelican though :(

I really need to dig through this list might take awhile though

I have yet to listen to it, but heard it was great from killer_roach and PA (who have praised the album greatly)

understandable your other Post-Metal albums make up for it (like usual I have only listened to one or two of them though)

I was not aware of any Krautrock releases this year either I will need to check those out

...I'm sorry. I've never heard of a good deal of these artists. I don't listen to indie music much if at all.

There's no way you were able to listen to all of these more than once or twice. I trust your judgment, but wonder how you can make such a huge list on your own.

actually, i made sure to listen to each album on my top 250 at least 3 times (though obviously some of my favorites received far more playtime). :)

the EP's and honorable mentions didn't receive such attention but the idea of dragging this out another month or so (and naturally finding another 50 albums or so i just have to include) makes me dizzy and sick.

all in all i've been keeping this list since the beginning of the year as i've previously hated doing lists simply because it's hard to get the ball rolling for me at the end of the year and always results in too many mistakes/omissions.

like i said, i can help but i'm sure a quick google/yahoo search would help a lot.

i don't know much about your taste in music, unfortunately so i can't make any immediate recommendations but i included genres after each album for a reason. :)

Well, I am a huge prog rock fan, but I don't think I saw much prog there.

Most prog rock fans also end up enjoying post-rock and psychedelic, so you might want to check out those albums as well.

I saw quite a bit, I'll pull up the Prog ones (of course it depends if you count Post-Rock and Post-Metal as Prog.):

    111. crime in choir - gift givers (prog/post-rock)
    142. shogun kunitoki - vinonaamakasio (electro/krautrock)
    157. magma - emehntehtt-re (zeuhl)
    164. constants - the foundation, the machine, the ascension (prog-metal)
    165. beak> - self titled (krautrock)
    211. cheer-accident - fear draws misfortune (avant-prog)
scale the summit - carving desert canyons

Although my personal favorites from this year are:

    The Mars Volta - Octahedron
The Tangent - Down And Out In Paris And London
    Mastodon - Crack The Skye
    Baroness - Blue Record
The Devin Townsend Project - Ki
Guilt Machine - On This Perfect Day

    and more good Prog. releases

Well done, 'stasis. I've had a read through your list and I've heard (maybe) a dozen of these albums. Definitely given me some stuff to chew over. The first ones I'm going to check out will be the Cold Cave and Ameoseurs albums.

Like instantdeath said, I, too, will be living in the past again in 2010.

    this

also i didn't see Animal Collective's newest EP on your best EP's on the year, i think it deserves a mention because it's the best thing they've done to date (IMO). unless you really didn't care for it... :o

EDIT: also Higher Than The Stars by TPoBPaH, the song itself might be better than their entire album, and that is saying something!

i really enjoyed both of those EP's, but don't like listing bands more than once on these sorts of lists and had my focus on the LP side of things this year.

i'll agree that the animal collective EP was far better than the LP and "higher than the stars" is better than any song on the pains LP.

Surprised Lightning Bolt made it that high on the list, though it was one of my favorites this year, it had 1 or 2 songs that I didn't care for too much(which is pretty rare with a lightning bolt record, I usually love them all). Think the song was flooded chamber or something. My Favorite tracks off of earthly delights were prolly Funny Farm and Rain on Lake I'm Swimming on. As a matter of fact that whole album is just a delight to listen to all the way through(love the closing track too!)
