Ultimate RB3 List (V6) And DLC

edited June 2010 in Your Ultimate Setlist
I know, I just made a setlist called V6 a few weeks back, but there was a lot of problems with Guitar Hero repeats, so I made another list with less GH songs and incorporated a year's worth of DLC. Here we go!
1.) No Led Zeppelin, unfortunately. Unless Jimmy Page changes his mind about Rock Band, we’re not getting them any time soon.
2.) Since we don’t know much about the contracts, I decided that bands so far exclusive to Guitar Hero (i.e. Aerosmith, Metallica, Van Halen) are fair game to be used on this list.
3.) Less songs. In previous versions I had up to 150 songs, which is a little unreasonable. I included only 133 this time around.
Regarding DLC, I decided to put on this thread instead of a separate one to avoid confusion. Remember that if your favorite song or band in the world isn’t on this list, it may appear in the DLC! So just keep this in mind when commenting and rating.

Rock Band 3 New Features:

Major Features:
[LIST]
[*]No more Wii descrimination!: Uses Guitar Hero's method of saving DLC to one spot to let Wii users download as much DLC as they want, along with SDHC compatibility. Also uses Guitar Hero's exportation system so that Wii users can export songs like Xbox 360 and PS3 users. And finally, there is now a way for Wii to receive patches through the Wii Shop Channel.
[*]Playable characters: Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, The Who (all members), The Rolling Stones (all members), The White Stripes (all members). Characters are exclusive to their songs. More coming as DLC.
[*]Real-Life Venues: House Of Blues, Hard Rock Caf

*NOTE ABOUT DLC:* I based the dates around the 2010 calender, but this could be any real year. I did it that way so that I could have dates but not be tied to a real year, so when these dates roll around I won't have to get rid of the DLC from then.

These aren't punk. I could reccommend you some modern punk, altough it would be better if the 80's had some punk songs, since it was the strongest decade for the genre.

Well, I think they are punk. Or at least punk would be the closest genre to describe them, anyways. What would you call them, then?

Rock. If you had a Rise Against song from their Fat Wreck Chords days I could abide that being labeled punk though.

Where are you getting your years from? Paradise City is 1987( but at least you labeled them right) and Flight Of Icarus is 1983. (I'm kind of a year stickler)

Well, unless you want to get into sub-genres like that, but more generally I think they would be punk

Well, all the other RA songs are labeled punk. Also, I think Basket Case is definitely a punk GD song, from their earlier years. So is Billy Talent, I believe. Alexisonfire could be a few genres however.

Oh, I don't know why those were mislabeled like that. They are now changed!

good stuff, love the huge Best Of packs, wish we would get more of those from H MX. Best of the Rolling Stones??? That would be insane.

    Just a few things...

    1) As a Springsteen fanatic, I am disappointed it doesn't come sooner, lol. Frankly, I couldn't get into Better Days all that much, but I'd be much more willing to buy the whole Springsteen pack if it were Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, off the Live '75/'85 3 disc album instead. Studio version sounds so barebone, imo. (I'd also love Badlands live from Barcelona, Spain).

    2) This just came on my iPod, and I now wonder, why is Hocus Pocus by Focus not on this list?!

    3) And where did my RickRoll go? I'd laugh quite heartily if that happened to me. I have never been RickRoll'd in my video games ever, and I would like to see how that would happen, especially if HMX 'casually' had an auto character that looked like Rick Astley...(like the fake Freddie Mercury consistently singing the DLC Queen songs)...only his name would be Richard Starleigh (cause Richard=Rick...Star=Ast(ro)...and leigh=ley...yeah, I put too much thought into that, lol)

    4) Speaking of RickRoll and only being unlocked via Random song, there should be an option to block certain songs from appearing on random song select. Personally, I hate having to play random songs on Tour Mode on expert, with the fear I'll get something stupid like Painkiller appear, and automatically fail.

    5) I just thought of another idea. GH5 has the ability to play up to 4 of the same instruments at once. RB could take that one further by including multiple guitar tracks, so not everyone has to see the same note highway if playing multiple guitars. Not sure if the same could be done for bass or drums. The only downside would be the amount of space it would take up, and the extra work required to go into it, but I think it would be interesting.

    6) I'm just OCD about consistency and the like, but in week 32 of DLC, you put the last two songs as song name-artist, instead of artist-song name. :p

Once again, a superb job, comrade.

    1) Yeah, I love Springsteen too, but once I had come up with a pack of him, I had already finalized many weeks of DLC. But I fit him in there, and that's what counts, right? I can see where you come from with the live track, but I think the studio version works well, and would just be more recognizable, or whatever :p.

    2) Huh. I totally forgot about that song! But don't worry, if I do more DLC (which I am considering) it will be there for sure!

    3) Yeah, I loved the idea myself, but I guess I was just worried that a bunch of people would just look at it and not get the humour, and rate the list bad because of it. I loved the idea, though!

    4) I actually meant to add that feature! I added the ability to filter DLC in quickplay and online, and meant to add that as well! I am adding it right after this gets posted, however.

    5) That is a good idea, too. But I would say that it would take up a lot of space and make the note highways even smaller than they already are, plus it wouldn't work for every track, only the ones with multiple guitars. Not a bad idea though!

    6) How did I miss that? I usually catch those things :D. They are changed now though.

Yeah, special for you, right? That pack and the singles were actually really good ideas, so I hope you don't mind me stealing them :D. And I'm really glad you like it! I thought a big Stones pack would be awesome, too, and if all of this actually happened, that would be one of my favorite weeks of the year.

Haha just posted this list YESTERDAY, and already Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes (from the disc) and Walk Away by The James Gang (from week 7 DLC) are, as of today, announced for DLC next week! Guess I made some good choices then!

Your Dlc choice sucks... I don't have the money for it all XD. I was reading the track list and though 'omg no rush...SPIRIT OF THE RADIO!'. I would love HMX to put 2112 overture/temple of syrinx on RB I would die. also your 80s is lacking some punk, eg the damned you could use new rose, eloise, ect. the damned don't get enough recongnition it's all 'punk? you mean like the sex pistols?' yea but there's more... lol Epic list bar a few but I realise a few sucky song need to be included, I'm happy to see cage the elephant there.

A few grammar problems here, but I think I get what you're saying :D. Thanks for the compliments, and I'm glad you like it, and thanks for realizing that you aren't going to like everything, and not flipping out since there are a few songs you don't like.

I'm not sure whether to do more DLC or not. I have a few more packs and songs I could release, but I don't know if I'll have much... Maybe if you guys can suggest some good picks to me then I'll release more?

Well, all the other RA songs are labeled punk. Also, I think Basket Case is definitely a punk GD song, from their earlier years. So is Billy Talent, I believe. Alexisonfire could be a few genres however.
I'd like to start by saying, I didn't mind the rest of your setlist. Some people take it personally when I start saying what is and isn't punk. I don't want you to take this personally, it's just I get really irked when things that aren't punk are called punk.

Rise Against only put out two punk records, both when they were on Fat Wreck Chords. That song is not from either of those albums.

That Green Day song is hardly punk considering they were playing to stadiums filled with 12 year olds by that point.

Billy Talent never was punk. They wish they were, but they aren't.

Alexisonfire is in the same situation. And they aren't post-hardcore either. Fugazi is post-hardcore, as an example.

I never took it personally, it's no big deal.

Anyways, I think it's sort of hard to classify punk. You make it sound like a band has to be kind of underground to be punk (maybe that's not what you're saying at all, but it sounds like that with your Green Day comment), but I just judge it myself based on the sound, so it's sort of an interpreted label.

On the Wikipedia pages for all of those songs it lists the genres as "hardcore punk" (Rise Against) "Punk Rock" (Green Day and Billy Talent) and "Post-Hardcore" (Alexisonfire) For AOF, I didn't want to add some sub-genre to the list and just labeled them punk because that's the closest to what I could figure out, but I guess I'll change that one to just Rock. For the other 3, I'll just keep them as punk for now, but you might be right. However, it's just a couple genre labels, so let's just drop the whole thing.

A band doesn't have to be underground to be punk. The Clash sold millions of records and were punk the whole time.

I'm sorry to make this seem like genre arguement, I guess what I was trying to say, that I'll admit I didn't make clear in my first post, is that your setlist only has 3 punk songs out of 133. That doesn't seem like enough for that genre.

I'm sorry to seem like a douchebag about it.

Your list of 80's songs is disappointing.

No Punk songs, only one Pop song, and only one New Wave song...

Also, I think when RB3 comes out they will integrate the genres from the RBN.

So I'm expecting a setlist that incorporates all of the main genres (the ones in bold)~

Look, I never called you the D-word. I can totally see your point, and it's very viable. But you gotta understand that what seems punk to one person may not seem punk to another, so therefor there could be more than 3 (maybe even like 10) depending on how you view the genre.

One pop song? What do you call The Zombies, Blondie, Bee Gees, The Police, The Cranberries, Michael Jackson, Pavement, and Snow Patrol? (I'm sure there's more that I just don't remember, too)

And no Punk songs? I can name 6 off the top of my head: The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Green Day, Billy Talent, Rise Against.

And I have at least a few of all of those genres in DLC. There can only be a certain amount of songs on-disc, but with DLC, there can be many more of every genre.

I'm only talking about your 80's songs.

You have absolutely no 80's Punk songs (Bad Brains, Misfits, Black Flag, Agent Orange, Minor Threat, etc.) and only one 80's Pop song (I can name SO many that would be great, don't get me started~). There's also only one New Wave song on the entire setlist (though I don't know why you labeled Depeche Mode alternative when they're the most successful Synthpop/New Wave band of all time...).

Also, I'm sure you can squeeze in at least one Blues song and one Jazz Fusion song ...

Week 13 caught my eye for DLC. excellent choices for Phish songs, and that pack sits side-by-side with a YYYs pack, though I would've picked different tracks to complement "Gold Lion"

    other quick notes:

-you picked a track from Modest Mouse's worst album

-earlier (90s) Dave Matthews Band would have been better

-same goes for Porcupine Tree, particularly their prog rock stuff (not as big a fan of their prog metal side)

I guess if you had taken some of your notable 00's groups (like the three I mentioned) and placed them in the 90s, the setlist would've been a lot better.

Alright, well I had like 3 or 4 of those bands that you mentioned in that punk list before, but somehow they got lost in the shuffle or moved to DLC, I guess. Thanks for your input, however.

I guess it is Modest Mouse's worst album, but Dashboard was a very notable song from that album, in my opinion.

I just don't know a ton about DMB, and just chose the first one that was popular and sounded like it would be fun to play.

Same with Porcupine Tree. I was just looking some songs by them up on youtube when I came across that one and it sounded cool and fun to play.

    Thanks, though!

So I just noticed that there has been some very good response to the list so far. Out of the 10 votes on the poll, five of them have been a 10/10 :D, and only one of them was a "bad" response. Thanks, guys!
