History of Rock Listen Alongs

Here's an idea. What if we, as a forum, selected 6 or so albums to listen to at the same time on a weekend? We'd vote for the albums, and then whoever didn't have it would get it. Once we all had it, we'd play at a specific time and discuss in this thread, or we'd make a new thread for each album listen along, depending. Then, we'd vote again the next week for new albums. We'd try to have a ton of diversity or we could try for a theme. Whichever.

Thoughts?

Winners:

A Place to Bury Strangers - A Place to Bury Strangers
Death Breath - Stinking Up the Night
echolyn - Mei
Argicantus - Habibi

I'm for it, if only to make you listen to a whole lot of Death Metal.

This would be a bit hard though, especially since a few people can be really busy, as well as the issue of getting said albums.

i'll give it a try unless the album's particularly bad.

Not opposed to the thought in the slightest, and this'll kick my ass into gear so I actually follow through on trying it out.

Which is understandable, so we'd make sure to have the six albums spread out over the weekend to accomodate everyone to get into at least one listen along. I also think we have enough people in different parts of the U.S. that you'd have pretty constant traffic to the listen alongs if they were timed properly.

We could also discuss what times work for everyone. I would think 12 PM PST and 3 PM EST would be a good time, and then have an early bird 9 AM PST/12 PM EST and a late night 9 PM PST/12 AM EST.

Well, we'd as a forum be voting, so the chances of it being particularly bad are pretty low, I would say.

3 or 4 sounds more reasonable than 6, but otherwise I am in unless like stasis said I am familiar with the album and think that it's total ****.

I think this is a cool idea, and the likely hood of listening to music monstrosities is low here so I'll probably be able to participate for the most part.

OK, well interest looks pretty high! Let's start nominating albums (1 per poster; don't worry, there will be votes for future weeks; 10 nominees total, first come first serve). Once those nominees are made, we'll make a poll and the top 4 will get listens this coming weekend. We'll discuss times after getting the albums picked.

If we are starting in this thread, then I nominate Habibi by Agricantus. I am trying to stick with albums that are unfamiliar with at least some HoR posters and given that stasis didn't know these guys I am sure that applies to everyoen. :p

Yes, it is starting in that thread, and it is added to the list.

    NOMINEES

    Argicantus - Habibi

Also, please give me a genre that I can put after the album title in the nominees section so that people know what they're going to be listening to.

I'll put in Slaves for Life by Amaseffer, in anticipation of the new album that's supposed to be released this year...

Should be familiar to some of you, but that isn't as big of a concern to me in the selection process.

For Agricantus just put Electro, although that album has more african folk influence than electro but electro fits.

no, my friend Matt already did the most epic thing ever associated with Studiofarce, by playing a random song by them and talking in a normal voice over the top: "this is what every dragonforce song is about, like, a bunch of people, go some place, for what is always a long period of time, like an infinity or a lifetime, or a million years, or whatever, and they are always soldiers or warriors or whatever, and they have some major battle" etc., it was hilarious
