RBN Relative Console 'Sales'

Thought it would be interesting to see which songs/bands perform better on XBOX or PS3 when compared to each other.

I used the number of scores reported on rockbandscores.com for every song released on both platforms. I left out the ones released the last few weeks because their numbers are still settling.

The first column is the number of Xbox scores for every 1 PS3 score.

One factor for this that I have not taken into account is songs that were released very early on for the 360. Those songs seem to be slightly more likely to sell more since they got in early and didn't have as much competition.

It appears that Metal is not the PS3 user's genre of choice compared to the 360..

Seems that way. The 'geek' songs don't seem to fair that well either (JoCo, MC Frontalot, Parry Gripp)

Does anyone have the sales numbers on the Rock Band 2 game for the two consoles? Just to give a baseline for comparison on these numbers.

I've always wondered -- does the PS3 have the same RBN interface that the 360 has? Or do they only have the regular in-game store, and the RBN songs are mixed in with all of the regular DLC?

I dunno, the total number of songs on PS3 only just surpassed the first day of the RBN on 360.

We have a separate RBN store, so the songs aren't mixed with official DLC.

Break down the sales figures total and realize RBN won't make you; as an artist or record label much direct cash.....Publicity and other things factor in I guess but maybe we're over estamating how many people pay attention to, and play rock band. :(

So keep on releasing the metal since it's not selling as strong :p

Okay I'm in the group that doesn't buy much metal (especially the screaming/roaring stuff) and gives more attention to the other genres. Amazing how big some of the gaps actually are there. They should check out the gap differences and try sending over a few things that might actually sell well for the PS3 but aren't dictated as popular for everybody by XBox.

Yes, this is very true. Many more casual players that come and go vs. long time folk who invest.

Don't forget that RBN was introduced very late in the RB2 life cycle. Heres hoping that the release of RB3 (and better integration of RBN songs in this) will also bring a boost to RBN sales.

It just saddens me and makes me worry about the future of the RBN and the future potential loss of bands. Rock Band is how I find out about 80% of different bands, for a kid who grew up without MTV and anybody to suggest music to me I have to ether find it myself or get lucky.

tl;dr: Rock band is my generations MTV, RBN can put anybody on MTV I don't want to lose this over sales. :(

These aren't actually sales numbers. They are submitted scores. The actual sales numbers are larger then this. How much larger varies from what I have been told, but around 30% higher seems reasonable.

Yes, the bands are rolling in it from these alone, but this is exposing them to new fans. New fans who go to concerts, buy CDs and merch, and tell their friends about the band.

I believe if there were previews on the PS3 things might be a little different. We still don't even have a song preview like normal dlc does. If you want to know what the song sounds like, you have to go elsewhere. I hope Rock Band 3 fixes this.

I tend to stick to songs I know when I buy things off RBN. I would like to discover some new bands/songs but it's pretty hard without previews. I know you could log into your computer and look the songs up, but it just feels different. When I turn Rock Band on, I'm in the mood for playing. Not in the mood to start my computer and look up dozens of songs/bands I've never heard of before. Why should people have to do this when Rock Band should be the one doing it? Especially if they want sales.

In my opinion, you don't even need a chart preview like the Xbox360 if it can't be done. Just let us listen to a few seconds of the song like regular dlc. It blows my mind that this hasn't been done yet on the PS3.

I can preview the RBN songs just fine. However my buddy who lives a mile away cannot. The differance is he has an old ps3 while I have the 120gig ps3 slim. Im almost positve that if you live in the usa and have a ps3 slim you can preview rbn songs right in the store.

Wow. I actually thought it was everyone with a PS3. I have a PS3 60 gig older model and my only options are Purchase or Exit.

Odd how one set can have previews and others can't? So odd.
