"I Walk the Line" & "Folsom Prison Blues" selling better than the pack, that was to be expected. Still thought it would sell better.

The free songs really jumped up there. Looks like people are starting to realise there is a music store and how to find out about new music.

Wow, "Welcome To The Black Parade" is still in the top 10 in sales? Imagine how well it would have done if it were RB3 version with the keyboard being used.

The old Rush album is still a big seller it looks like...

Looking over the chart, I was surprised to see certain items extremely low on the charts including "Subdivisions" being waaaaay down there. I'm talking close to #1000 for the week. Maybe everyone already bought it? I'm not sure.

Well, maybe there are still a lot of people buying RB2 only songs because they have not moved to RB3 yet...

Don't Stop Believing is at #12? Wasn't that song released almost two years ago? How the heck is it still in the top 25 of the week? Has it ever dropped out of it?

Subdivisions is listed twice on the sales charts. The one listed at around 1000 is '"Subdivisions" (Pro)'. In other words, the pro guitar/bass upgrade. "Subdivisions" the song is sitting around 60. For some reason, the only songs which list the pro upgrades are Subdivisions and Light My Fire.

"Moving Pictures" is undoubtedly where it is this week because of the sale. I expect the other packs which are on sale are elevated, but I haven't gone looking.

"Don't Stop Believing" is simply unstoppable. Except for the free downloads, nothing is competing with it in terms of staying power, although the other All Time top songs also show generally strong sales.

Is there anyway to even estimate actual sales numbers on these?
For instance, if only 100 actual people bought any of the Johnny Cash stuff, and 25 people happened upon the store because of the sale, and picked up "Don't Stop Believing" while they were there...I'm saying, literally numbers that low.

It just seems like this week's results seem to indicate that DLC isn't as widespread a buy as maybe we've previously thought. If everyone who has RB3 got the free pack, and it catapults into nearly the top 25% of all time sold, it doesn't seem like it takes many sales to make a drastic impact on the charts.

I guess what I'm saying is I have a hard time picturing a scenario in which thousands and thousands of people finally got to buying "Don't Stop Believing" or "Poker Face" or "Drop it Like it's Hot" last week alone.

Wow RB3 free pack at #354.

Reports of RB3 demise are clearly greatly exaggerated with all the sales of this one.

I would not have guessed that it was possible for new DLC to do as well as the Rock Band Free Pack has done. So many more people have RB1 and RB2 than have RB3 that I didn't think RB3 DLC could compete with the top older DLC. Beyond that, free downloads are XBox Live Gold exclusives for the first week, so I was expecting a relatively slow first week and then a big jump the second week when everyone with XBox Silver accounts picked it up.

I was wrong on both counts, and am generally amazed.
I'm guessing a lot of folks who still don't have RB3 yet still grabbed this knowing they'll want it when they do.

That said, wow. Around Top 25% at launch is pretty cool.

I've made some improvements to the way I collect the sales data, which means I can do new things. Starting with including the release date for all the DLC, which makes it possible to distinguish between different songs with the same name and also to get a sense of the relationship between when songs went on sale and where they appear in the sales rankings. So here's the

Pretty depressing to see the best album currently available for Rock Band (Imagine) selling so poorly.

Probably not a terribly bold prediction, but I'll go ahead and call that on December 31st, 2011, Linkin Park will be the best selling (no, I don't count free as "selling") DLC released in 2011. Expecting huge numbers from this pack, and being so early in the year will give it an edge as well.

I don't know, this is still one of the first weeks of the year, who knows what we'll get. But it is possible that Linkin Park will own everything else.

It's hard to disagree with without more evidence of what's to come, but I doubt it, only because something will surprise folks, and I'm hearing a lot of folks talking about just getting a few songs (more so than usual).

If there will be Michael Jackson DLC (3-12 pack), it's going to beat Linkin Park 01.

While infinitely better in terms of musicianship, I bet that possible U2, The Beatles, Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd DLC won't beat them in sales.

I'm pretty sure Pink Floyd and Beatles will, if they include the big hits.

Almost a given, considering it will be out almost the longest time this year (and Cash isn't doing too well)

Unless we get Muse or some other big band everyone's requesting, there's probably nothing stopping it from winning the year in sales

Not if those packs are released in December 2011.

And you are now accusing Linkin Park of having zero musicianship, ortherwise other bands could not be infinitely better. And by your logic, all other bands that have some musicianship are infinitely better. That can't be right.

I don't have enough of a feel for what sells well to predict these things, but I want to point out that the best selling track of 2009 was Journey. And the best selling song of 2010 was Eric Cartman, doing a cover of Lady Gaga. It's hard to say there's a pattern there.

This is what I started to write:

Wow. Really? I'm old (45) and can't really comment and which bands resonate with young people, but seems like LP generates a LOT of negative reactions. They also seem to be somewhat yesterday (to me) as I remember them getting a lot of play early in the decade but not so much in the last five years.

Would not a big pack from Muse or Dream Theater or Queens of the Stone Age or even more mainstream material like...

And at this point I looked up the top selling artists of the 2000's....and most of it (expectedly) was hip-hop with some country and rock thrown in. The top rock albums:

    5. The Beatles - 1
    7. Linkin Park - hybrid Theoary
    12. Better Life - 3 Doors Down
    14. Chocolate Starfish....- Limp Kizkit
    17. Weathered - Creed
    22. Fallen - Evanesence
    24. Break The Cycle - Staind

So LP, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Creed....all bands that elicit lots of negativity...a collection of 40 year old songs, one emo (to me) act and one semi-rootsy band.

I honestly don't think I've been more depressed about the state of rock and roll than I am right now.

Little sensitive, doncha think? I think the poster was just saying that some of those other bands exhibit a bit more master of their instruments than LP. Not sure that is true (Beatles and U2 are pretty simple, musicianship-wise) but no need to get your panties in a bunch.

Well, they both have strong ties to pop culture, and were only released as singles. I can't really think of a good example in that vein, but Harmonix certainly COULD release something that would sell more than LP; Classic GNR, Black Album era Metallica, Black-Eyed Peas hits, more Gaga, lots of things. Lets just all hope they have some good stuff on deck that will make people happy and make them some money ;)

I had thought that one of the actual Lady Gaga songs caught the Cartman version? Or was it just the pack?

Let me address the 'lot of negative reactions' part. Nickelback. Lady Gaga. Some of the highest selling DLC AND music, yet you hear nothing but **** about them from people like us.
