No More RBN dlc for the Wii! Discuss!

Next Tuesday, 1/18/2010, will also be the last scheduled batch of Rock Band Network songs brought over to the Wii. With the smaller online install base, limited demand for releases so far and the significant amount of work it takes for our producers and audio team to convert and process these additional tracks we’re no longer able to continue submitting RBN content to the Wii. Regular Wii DLC, and RBN releases for the 360 and PS3 will continue uninterrupted.

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213411

Looks like time to upgrade systems, but if sales are really that bad, then maybe no one was really into the songs anyways.

I always said was way too much metal and unknowns for my taste, and with the wii, most are more family friendly I would assume right?

Sorry to inform you guys of this, just thought it was interesting that this happened and yet no one seems to be talking about it.

The date they were released really doesn't matter. When a song is eventually released it doesn't sell well enough. The fact is HMX is a business and the sales of RBN songs didn't justify the costs to get them on the Wii. They aren't going to continue to invest time and money in something that isn't profitable.

The fact that the Wii is losing the RBN songs is sad. I wish it had performed better and/or didn't have as much cost porting.

So the date doesn't matter. No, you can sell a lot releasing the songs of an entire month yesterday. The delays in rbn wii are always like that. How can you say limited demand if you don't release the song? The first rbn songs released were around november. Your argument is lame.

Terrible news. THIS SUX!!! I loved RBN and have lots of the songs downloaded (roughly at least 80 of them that came to the Wii if I remember correctly).

I know I might not be the normal Wii user, but I loved the RBN songs...I kept checking every week to see which new song for us and old catalog for other systems we were getting via RBN.

In fact, I prefered the RBN songs to the regular DLC songs.

I heard about RBN 2.0 support KEYS and I was going to wait to buy more in hope we would get the RBN 2.0 songs.

Wish they would just release them like to normal songs for the Wii players so we can get them. This means that my FAV 80s song of ALL TIME may not come to the Wii for RBN 2.0 and it was annoouced as to be a first in the RBN 2.0 list.

    That song:

PAC-MAN FEVER (I WANT THIS SONG MORE THAN ANYTHING AND I HAVE WII). In fact, I'd purchase the WHOLE PAC-MAN FEVER Album if it was available on the Wii to purchase.

This also means no RON WASSERMAN whom I was waiting for the hit the Wii and I wanted BOTH of the songs he had put on there.

The last 4 RBN songs I bought for the Wii were The Touch, (Do You Want to Date My) Avatar, & Nom nom nom nom nom nom nom, & Last Train to Awesometown. (I love and was hoping for more Parry Gripp to come)

Please let this not happen HMX. I NEED MY RBN Songs, I want the Sophie B Hawkins one, the other Stroke 9 song, the other Stand Bush song. I don't care if they are 100, 200, or 300 Wii points for those songs, I'd paid it just to get them.

Harmonix. I used to defend you when it came to Wii owners complaining. Now you really pissed me off. what's next? us not being able to download anything period? Maybe the demand was low because of the choices of songs you gave us. I personally was waiting for 7 songs that had already been available on the 360 to come for the Wii but no...now i cant get anything. Soon, I will realize that I will have thrown money into a black future. Maybe in this future you will stop releasing games for the Wii. I wouldnt be surprised. Are you trying to force us to change consoles? or are you trying to little by little lose your wii audience so you dont have to invest on the wii console anymore?

I know you guys gotta take care of your business, but you guys are really hurting us. Im really dissapointed now as well as my friends that i currently play with. please realize that this will cause people to stop investing on the wii downloads, maybe to the point that you will again have to make a decision and stop wii dlc...

Harmonix, at least do one last thing for us please. gives us another week, maybe not next week. but use a poll and ask wii users which songs they plan to buy before you completely shut down the store. please, im begging you. us wii owners will give responses to this poll and tell you exactly what songs we want. since you say that the demand is low this shouldnt be a long list. at the end you can just give us one last week of rbn songs that were requested by most. please, do this last one effort. im begging us Harmonix. If you guys feel any compassion, then do us this last favor. The hardcore wii community may be small, but we love your game just as much as any other hardcore game on 360 or ps3. we deserve one last treat. Thank you.

Do you really think HMX looks at one day sales to make this decision. They have months of data they used to make this call. How is this hard to understand?

I have bought a decent share of DLC and I'm sad to see it go, though I too was suprised to see it show up. I will miss the opportunity to get the 8 songs on the entire list that never got ported as well as the the pac-man fever song that was expected. Maybe in another 6 months they'll have another decent collection of marketable songs to make it worth their wild.

I have to agree on this one. Poll us and then release the top 20 or 30 songs on the list that the Wii users want and then see how much money you make from that week.

I'm sure you will see (if you do this) that getting rid of the RBN on the WII is a VERY BAD move. I just wish you would have put of the songs I wanted most on the WII RBN before you decided to close it.

Like to poster I quoted stated, not I will never be able to get the songs I was looking forward to getting one day.

This is a good thing, now HMX can focus on the main dlc so we dont get a three pack or one song for a week

Months of data, do you really read? Rbn is being in wii only for a couple of months, and with delays ALL the weeks. Where the hell is your data?

Well, that's just a tad selfish.

Sucks for you Wii owners. Really does. Don't mean to rub it in or anything, but I'm super glad I own all 3 consoles. You guys should really think about investing :)

Being that I have only ever DL-ed 2 RBN tracks (Flight of the Conchords) and have had zero interest in the other offereings sent to the Wii so far....not losing sleep over this.

But also considering that those 2 tracks are part of a much larger 500 track Library...umm....don't **** with regular Wii DLC, HMX!!!!! This is one of your most regular Wii DLC customers talking here!

RBN tracks for Wii started popping up during RB2 - it's been more than a couple of months.

I could save money, but that's not the issue. I could go buy a PS3 and 360 right now if I really wanted to. It's time. I don't have it, and I don't see myself getting much more in the near future.

Ha, this is awesome. You ask me if I read then say there is not months of data because it has only been around for months. Hilarious.

FYI: It has now been around for 4 Months. http://www.rockbandaide.com/8122/ps3-and-wii-rbn-dlc-for-914/

That is plenty of time to gather and analyze data. As we see with the sales rankings of songs on 360 (the only one who gives any sort or ranking/numbers), tracks lose a significant amount of momentum after being out for a month. And in this case HMX has 100+? songs that have been available to the Wii for over a month. I'm sure they did their due diligence. It's simple, had it been profitable they would continue to release them. Wish it wasn't the case (I have a brother I have been trying to get to download RBN songs on Wii for months and he finally did at xmas and found a bunch of songs he liked) but it is.

"Buck up and Console Hunt" is not a useful solution. With all the DLC, instruments and other assorted equipment, it could be up to $1000 for someone to get only what they already have on the Wii (only with a little nicer graphics and sound options).

Spending a great big wad of money to end up no further ahead isn't a realistic solution.

Sorry to hear about this, Wii owners. Perhaps HMX could have done a poll to transfer x amount of songs people wanted, but may have taken them too long with the amount of tracks there are.

It is always sad to see things taken away, even if it does not affect you directly.

I feel for you Rock Band Wii players. I know I'd be pretty ticked if I were you, too. I doubt, though, that HMX is pleased about having to make the decision. I think they tried very hard to make it work; but from my position as an outside observer it seems like trying to make it all work with Nintendo just added up to a big headache. Then if sales were lack-luster on top of it, it's hard to blame HMX for this decision; they are a business after all. I know you guys hate to hear "blame Nintendo", but are the mentioned delays HMX's fault or Nintendos'? My guess is Nintendo.

Well, having all the advantages of RB isn't the only plus with a 360/PS3, ya know.

    Just saying as all.

Like I said in my first post, I agree. I'm a self-proclaimed Nintendo fanboy, but I've been highly critical of their online system since it launched with Mario Kart DS. Aside from a few games that get it right (Monster Hunter Tri is a great example), it's awful and I hope they realize this and fix it before their next console (the 3DS) launches.

Maybe it's the time to stop supporting harmonix.

Man, this is a brutal kick to the groin for Wii players. I was wondering if this would happen to the PS3 and Wii at some point. The 'extra' work requird to port these to the other systems is overhead that doesn't necessarily need to be in place, but... this sucks, plain and simple.

And I didn't see this mentioned yet in this thread, but the original Harmonix staff do not own the company, and they don't call all the shots. There's a good chance that the current owner made the decision to stop new Wii RBN content in order to improve profit.

I could care less. I thought people only bought the Wii for the Wii-fit game. When I bought my X-box, I bought it for 3 reasons....

    1. More memory for Rock Band tracks
    2. Halo
    3. Call of Duty

Sorry Wii owners, buy American next time.

This would only be a problem for me if they stated TAKING AWAY songs from the Wii Store. Of the 417 -odd tracks NOT part of RB3's disc tracks in my library, only 2 came from RBN - both being FLight of the Conchords tunes.

IBKIBK, you were told by Der Lex in the other thread that the delay was only for European Wii owners. American Wii owners have not seen delays of RBN tarcks, and, for better or worse, it's American owners that would have bought the most tracks anyway.

Respectfully, please stop trying to skew the perspective.

i think most of the songs i've bought are rbn or close to half. not sure. bu i really don't think it's because wii is family friendly. it's more like it was a bit unclear as to what rbn games were.

i didn't know for the longest time and i didn't read about it. i assumed they were songs submitted and charted by users (because i read somewhere "submit your own tracks") or songs you only play online because of the word network in the title, so i was not interested in it.

then i finally understood how it worked and found some music i liked. anyway, i think it just needs to be more clear what it is. i think a lot of us expected half assed charted songs by fans or limited to online play songs.
