Plutarch's RB4 Setlist

PlutarchPlutarch Road Warrior
edited March 2011 in Your Ultimate Setlist
98 songs, with YouTube links, sorted by decade, and tiered as follows:
Guitar: X/6 Bass: X/6 Drums: X/6 Keys: X/6 Vocals: X/6

All tiers are meant for standard mode, not pro. On that note, I have a lot more sympathy for HMX when they tier everything while also trying to keep the tiers organized! A few other points about this setlist:

-I tried to strike a balance between commercially viable songs and my personal preferences. A lot of well-known hits here, but this is still a very Plutarch setlist. :)

-I avoided all the bands that are most notoriously difficult to license: No Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Tool, etc. I would love to see all those bands in RB one day, but I figured I would challenge myself to put together a good setlist without them.

-I gotta thank my compatriots in the Community Rock Band 4 votes for introducing me to some of these gems. Without further ado, the setlist.

I love most of it, which is more than I can say about most ultimate setlists and actual game setlists.

I also appreciate that the Muse song wasn't Knights of Cydonia.

And Sonata Arctica + Nightwish is win as always.

A few odd choices (the 2007 version of A Tout Le Monde, Moonlight Drive, Paschendale, etc.) and missing a few too many songs I'd really wanna see on the next set, but I'd definitely buy it! Awesome work!

Well, they certainly weren't obvious choices. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of Paschendale.

Earlier drafts of this had "Fade to Black," but then I heard about how Battery wasn't going to export from RB2 and I was like "Two in a row? Forget this. I don't want to put songs on here that I won't even have when the hypothetical next game comes out!" :p Dream Theater I just don't know well enough.
I also appreciate that the Muse song wasn't Knights of Cydonia.

And Sonata Arctica + Nightwish is win as always.
Figured you would enjoy it, my New England Power Metal brother. But yeah, I was getting sick of Knights of Cydonia showing up everywhere too.

The newer A Tout Le Monde was chosen because I felt that the presence of two singers (Mustaine and Cristina Scabbia) would lead to an awesome song for harmonies. The original has to be given its due, but I thought this one was better for playability reasons.

Moonlight Drive is a little out there, I guess....but then again, most of the major Doors songs were taken care of in the 12 pack!

I love Paschendale. It's my 2nd favorite Maiden song ever...(Hallowed Be Thy Name is 1st). I find it incredibly moving in addition to being epic metal.

    1. Might I suggest Waiting for the Sun? By far my favorite Doors jam.
    2. I'd rather see something along the lines of Seventh Son of a Seventh Son if we're talking Iron Maiden "epics".

At a friend's suggestion, I've created a YouTube playlist with all of these songs...arranged like an Endless Setlist, with the songs getting harder and harder as you move on.

    Not even please?

I was actually worried about people thinking there was too MUCH metal. In my opinion, A7X has already enjoyed a hell of lot of exposure on RB...and I just don't know that many SOAD songs. I didn't put Metallica on because they don't export.

On the other hand, the Rock Band platform was been woefully deprived of power/symphonic metal, so I added a lot of that. If it weren't for RBN, we'd have even less that the meager amount we already do.

I love this setlist. There are so many songs on here that I love, but I think some picks could be better, such as a different Killers song. My favourites in here would be your choices from Styx, Eminem, Scorpions, Muse, Journey, ZZ Top, Coldplay, and more.

Hell yeah! I had two goals with this - first was to create a well-rounded list that most people would like and second was to increase the overall representation of power/symphonic metal in RB. At first glance, they don't sound like complimentary objectives, but I'm glad to see I blended them reasonably well. Thanks!

A lot of choices when it comes to the Killers, that's for sure. Earlier drafts of this had "Somebody Told Me" but in the end, I am a vocalist and like "All These Things I've Done" a little better for singing. A lot of other songs definitely could have worked, though the guy who posted below you seems to approve!

Nice job and seems like it could be very plausible to being a RB4 setlist

How do you make a Youtube list like that?

If you have a YouTube account, you can go to any video and there is an option on the page to add it to a playlist. I made the playlist and then added the songs in the order I worked out beforehand. It was the first time I had done that and it was much easier than I expected!

Out of all these songs, I like 22. That's around 22 percent. Still, I don't know some of the bands on there, so I can't complain. I want to change some songs for some artists, but still good variety.

Yeah, my question was stupid. Should have known it was a playlist. *hits self on head* Der!

It took 5 minutes for that Iron Maiden song to get good. It shouldn't be a problem to get one that is good from start to finish. Here's one, here's another, or maybe this or why not this?

Sorry, I think "Paschendale" is brilliant from start to finish. It's about a battle in World War I and there is a reason why it's paced the way it is. The drum beats are meant to sound like morse code...while the contrast between the slow points and the quick bursts of activity are meant to mimic life on the battlefield...periods of quiet followed by sudden violence. I am a huge Iron Maiden fan and know pretty much all their songs. When it comes to my dream setlist, Paschendale is non-negotiable.

Well, "Invincible" has become the first song off this setlist to join the ranks of the Rock Band library. Looking forward to having it shred my vocal cords tomorrow. I've replaced it with "Hell is For Children," though now all my organized tiering is out of whack...oh well.

And since the trend seems to be to add weekly DLC to these setlists, I suppose I will do the same. I'm not going to tier them all though, that takes too long. "X" indicates pro-guitar/bass support.

    DLC Week 1: Grab Bag!

ZZ Top - "Sharp Dressed Man" X
ZZ Top - "La Grange" X
ZZ Top - "Gimme All Your Lovin'" X

Dream Theater - "Pull Me Under" X
Dream Theater - "Metropolis pt. 1 - The Miracle and the Sleeper"
    Dream Theater - "Lie"

Them Crooked Vultures - "Mind Eraser, No Chaser"
A Flock of Seagulls - "I Ran (So Far Away)"
Dire Straits - "Sultans of Swing" X

If this is anyone's first time seeing the setlist, I welcome more input.

I'd by everything from that DLC except for Flock of Seagulls because I've never heard of them. And of course, no pro guitar because I'm too lazy to get the money for the controller.

You might not have heard of the band, but "I Ran" is a huge 80s hit. Well, time for some more DLC.

Week 2: Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" Full Album!

Bruce Springsteen - "Cover Me" X
    Bruce Springsteen - "Darlington County"
Bruce Springsteen - "Working on the Highway"
Bruce Springsteen - "Downbound Train" X
Bruce Springsteen - "I'm On Fire"
Bruce Springsteen - "No Surrender" X
    Bruce Springsteen - "Bobby Jean"
Bruce Springsteen - "I'm Goin' Down"
Bruce Springsteen - "Glory Days" X
Bruce Springsteen - "Dancing in the Dark"
    Bruce Springsteen - "My Hometown"

An X represents pro guitar/bass support. The track "Born in the USA" is already on the RB4 setlist.

Well, with the release of "Policy of Truth," that's another song down! 96 to go, HMX! Good start so far. :D

Now for another week of DLC. Seems the trend is to make new threads for each week, but I dunno about that. I don't want to clutter the subforum with an overabundance of Plutarch. I do wish I could figure out how to change the thread forum to add "(Now with weekly DLC!)"

Anyhow, this week is the first part of what I call "The Reclamation," a multi-part effort to reclaim lost songs from RB1-2 and also some new stuff! Sorry about the lack of bolding, but the forum is being stupid.

Week 3: The Reclamation, Part One

Journey 01 ("Wheel in the Sky" is on the RB4 setlist)
"Any Way You Want It (RB3 Version)" X
    "Don't Stop Believin' (RB3 Version)" X
    "Lights"
    "Faithfully"
    "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" X

    Red Hot Chili Peppers 01
    "Dani California (RB3 Version)" X
"Give It Away (RB3 Version)" X
    "Californication" X
    "Scar Tissue" X
    "Otherside" X
    "Can't Stop" X
