Your most wanted Rock Band song?

Hey gang (and yes I know this seems like Ultimate setlist material, but it's NOT, so just bear with me here), so at TAG we're always looking for new and exciting ways to help Rock Band grow and get more of the music we all love into the game.

Now having said that we're working on something now, that if everything falls into place will go along ways towards getting us those bands that have been 'left behind' by the current state of the franchise.

As we all know Harmonix has to stick to the big bands and their known hits to make sure what they're doing keeps the franchise afloat, and Rock Band Network mostly deals with the bands that are up and coming and mostly unknown (outside of some more well known bands here and there of course).

So we have this entire middle level of bands that are just being left out now. Bands that are too big for Rock Band Network, but too small for Harmonix to take a risk on.

So we're doing something to POSSIBLY rectify this, and this is where you guys come in.

Give us your most wanted song from a band that falls into this category. Obviously don't go and say something crazy like Pink Floyd, or Led Zep (or bands that we know haven't been in the game for various reasons like Van Halen, etc).

Examples would be Alter Bridge, Bullet for My Valentine, Atreyu, Chevelle, Red, In Flames, Papa Roach, Killswitch Engage, The Exies, Static X, etc.

We're trying to get a database together of the top ten most wanted songs from bands that meet this criteria.

So list your top 3 songs that you want (and would do 'anything' to get them in the game), and we'll compile an overall top ten from there.

Hopefully we'll be able to reveal what we're up to soon (as soon as the mothership gives us clearance to move forward), but until then know that we're working on something pretty big for all of you!

the first band that pops to my mind that seems to fit this description is Nada Surf

    Nada Surf - "Always Love"
Nada Surf - "In The Mirror"
Nada Surf - "Do It Again"
Nada Surf - "I Like What You Say"
    Nada Surf - "Happy Kid"
    Nada Surf - "Fruit Fly"

another slightly more obscure one would be the scottish band Idlewild

Idlewild - "American English" especially, but pretty much anything off The Remote Part or 100 Broken Windows

As an addendum I suppose you could pick a deep cut from a big band that you know Harmonix wouldn't go for.

So the band could be big enough for Harmonix, but it isn't their BIG hit so you can most likely assume they would never bring it to the game.

And yeah I'd say Money for Nothing is a song that Harmonix would get at some point.

    Mercyful Fate 3 pack:
    Evil
    Curse of The Pharaohs
    Into The Coven

They re-recorded this songs for GH: Metallica, but only "Evil" ended up being used in the game, so the masters are probably easy to obtain.
A promotional single with the re-recordings was released by their label "Metal Blade"

Dinosaur Jr. - Little Fury Things
    Built to Spill - Car
Modest Mouse - Doin' the Cockroach

All from albums released on independent labels. Really I'd take anything from all three of these artists, but I chose one of the more likely songs from each.

    Kamelot - March of Mephisto
    Opeth - A Fair Judgment

Oh and for the record these don't have to be limited to indie or small labels.

You can include stuff from the 'big 4' Sony, Warner, Universal, EMI, etc...

#1 band that comes to mind for me is Iced Earth, preferably something from the Dark Saga or Something Wicked This way comes. Besides the epic trilogy of songs that end both of these albums, Burning Times off of Something Wicked would be my #1 choice.

#2 would be Testament. We've seen them appear in both RBN and RB proper. I'd love more stuff from Formation of Damnnation, The Gathering, or even some of the re-recorded stuff they've done in the last decade (just like the re-record of Souls of Black used for RB2)

#3 would be John Bush era Anthrax. Some of the most overlooked kick ass metal from the 90's. In my opinion, it was simply a case of wrong place at the wrong time. If I remember correctly, the band has 100% ownership rights to the masters and songs from when they split with the label.

"Burning House of Love" by X
"Kiss Me Deadly" by Lita Ford
"White Lines (Don't Do It)" by Duran Duran

Picking just three's tough, but I feel like these are the songs I've always wanted to see come to the platform.

Three that come to mind for me are

Rusted Root - Send Me On My Way (great song that was in a ton of movies in the mid to late 90s, seems to be fairly easily gettable, a lot of people would have an "oh that song" moment)

Icon For Hire - Make A Move (great band, reminds me of if Paramore and Flyleaf had a baby)

Buckethead - any song (seems pretty gettable, I know he was supposed to come via another RBN studio...we all know what happened to that)

So, I'm hesitant to name mine because they aren't really current and I'm expecting such things to show up as HMX DLC eventually, but here goes.

Anything by Emerson Lake & Palmer

    Anything by Frank Zappa

    Anything by Gentle Giant.

There ya go. If these bands are actually viable I'll give you song lists if that's necessary.

I'll add a little Canadian Content to the discussion. I think these bands fit the criteria given. They are relatively big in Canada, but not massive bands.

Tragically Hip - New Orleans is Sinking (there was talk that it was in development for RBN, but then came out in Powergig so it may not be possible. Anything from the Hip - preferably early stuff - would be awesome).

    Our Lady Peace - Naveed

    Big Wreck - Lady Like

Other Canadian Bands I'd love to see: Billy Talent, Matthew Good Band, The Watchmen, 54-40, Gordon Lightfoot (a song like Don Quixote would be sweet on guitar - pro, but would be super boring on drums, and I don't think there is any bass).

Real Answers To Thread Topic (i.e. crazy bands that have no hope of being in RB)

Zeppelin - Battle of Evermore (Cream - White Room is a close second)

    The Toadies - Possum Kingdom
Monster Magnet - Space Lord or any track would be great
Roky Erickson - Bloody Hammer or Two-Headed Dog
Tomahawk - God Hates a Coward or any track would be stellar
MGMT - Time To Pretend or Kids
    Jace Everett - Bad Things
David Lynch - anything from Crazy Clown Time (An awesome album from late last year)
And the most wanted... Ugly Kid Joe - Milkman's Son

Some stuff that would have been great during the "let's give you some synth-heavy hits for that shiny new keytar" era of DLC:

    Gary Numan - "Cars"
    Harold Faltermeyer - "Axel F"
    Kajagoogoo - "Too Shy"

Would have said more Depeche Mode, but they seem big enough for another pack of official DLC or even a spot on a disc. Isn't this thread "suggest moderately popular artists for RBN?"

No this thread isn't suggest moderately popular bands for RBN.

Like I said, we've got something in the works, and if the stars align and everything goes great then we'll be seeing these middle of the road bands (and even deep cuts or non hit singles from big bands) coming to RB soon.
