The Rock Band Network song(s) a day suggestion thread

There was something like this last summer by Fairwood that kind of fizzled out, and I want to try and resurrect it, as I feel there are a TON of insanely awesome songs that are getting overlooked on the Rock Band Network.

So I want to try and do my part to shed a little light on the Rock Band Network tracks and get the word out to everyone playing Rock Band in general, that you might be missing some incredible music by not checking out the RBN offering.

If a picture speaks a thousand words than a video probably speaks a thousand squared. So if possible I will post a video of the song in question and just let the music and the charts do the talking, and keep my jabbering down to a bare minimum.

Now keep in mind this isn't some auto generated list, this is music and songs that I personally have downloaded and love to play. I'm not a difficulty chaser, so this isn't based on charts, but just if I like the song, and find it fun to play. (and yes I don't mind playing 'boring' parts as I'm about interacting with the music more than trying to burn my fingerprints off on the guitar buttons via difficulty).

There's almost 2000 songs available on the RBN (and it will soon over take Harmonix's official DLC releases), so I'm going to list a few song each day (try to do it every day baring illness, death, internet implosion, or Alzheimers).

Now keep in mind this is my (Noble's) opinion on these songs and not of TAG as a company).

So first up :
With the recent influx of female fronted bands I thought it was time to dust off this gem.
Sick by Bif Naked : (Note : Pro drums not charted) RBN1.0 available for PS3/Wii
http://youtu.be/AOhVomEbWqI

This next one is one of ours. Slower paced song, but it has a great 90's grunge feel to the music. One of our criminally underated songs, and it seems to have flown under a LOT of people's radars.

Reaching Down by Order of Voices : RBN2.0 not on PS3
http://youtu.be/ve-JUpvD1_4

Then we've got this killer track. If you're a fan of Gravity Kills or Stabbing Westward then you NEED to get this track.

Hangman by Drugstore Fanatics : RBN2.0 available on PS3
http://youtu.be/8rqP7S-7UJo

Last and certainly not least is this dark rock/gothic female fronted band.
Really love the song and it's a blasty blast to play in the game.

It's Sno, Baby Not Sugar by Snovonne : RBN 2.0 not on PS3
http://youtu.be/skPjViGgCz8

I'll be back tomorrow with some more suggestions you might have overlooked!

It was a good thread, found some great songs on it :) But his thread did pick songs by random, this was eliminating personal preference. Are you just going to be making suggestions based on your purchases or also go the random route?

I'll be going by my own personal tastes, BUT bear in mind I like a very wide selection of genres and have about 1500 RBN songs. So it's not like I'm limited to a small handful ;)

    Day 2!

And the spotlight continues to shine on Rock Band Network songs, both old and new that you might have missed out on the first time around.

Let's get this show on the road!

This first one is one of the earliest Rock Band Network tracks and when the service first released there were almost 250 songs released in the first month. So it was easy for tracks to get overlooked. I had this song for a while before I got around to playing it, and it's been a favorite ever since.

Collapsing by Demon Hunter : (Note : Pro drums not charted) RBN1.0 available on PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/lW6cjjRQiZY

This one is the first song we ever released to the Rock Band Network, and in the course of working on the song, this infectious little tune REALLY wormed it's way into my brain. A fun little pop/punk song that you just can't help to bob your head to when you're playing.

Stereo Stereo by I am King Tony : RBN1.0 not available on PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/6rIpxawYkUA

This is one of those epic prog songs that will test your endurance, and just so happens to be mega incredible to listen to as well.

Ship with No Sails by Neonfly : RBN2.0 available on PS3
    http://youtu.be/7rAVowmynFo

Last by not least is a song that reminds me of Dog Eat Dog era Warrant. Check it out!

    4 Walls, 1 Window by Finespun : RBN2.0 not available on PS3
    http://youtu.be/8pXUR_jDdVw

That's it for today and have fun discovering new music!

    --update--

Played it, and damn it's at the top of what I can just about manage to play on X Pro-Drums. Really good fun and one that I can see me playing a lot to help me progress. There was a couple of sections where I almost failed out.

The stage lighting was also very effective, looked great on my SK :)

I had this demo for a LONG time, never pulled the trigger, then RB3 came out and the lack of pro drums made me throw it out. Very sad.

Fairwood's thread had "sounds like" next to every song as best he could manage. I've thought since reading it that not only would a "sounds like" be extremely valuable for every RBN track, but that it would be even better if they could be compared to artists that are already available on disc or as HMX DLC whenever possible, since that's kind of the common musical ground we know all RB players share. Someone can read a two-band "sounds like" blurb a lot faster than they can watch a linked video.

    Day 3!

Let's get this show on the road!

Here's an incredible little rock tune that is a real blast to play. Despite what you may think about the band name, this isn't another angry white boy metal act.

I Know What I am by Band of Skulls : (Pro drums not charted) RBN1.0 Available on PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/OeFmDpkC_ss

Another of our early tracks that a lot of people have overlooked. This is a slower paced but no less incredible melodic metal song that I recommend checking out :

Into the Black Light by Ghost Brigade : RBN2.0 not available on PS3
    http://youtu.be/LWxm9ApSHEE

Another early RBN track that is just an incredibly fun burst of energy. Kind of a metal and techno fusion this is :

Doomsday Party by Sybreed : (Pro Drums not charted) RBN1.0 not available on PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/Lufv4aZlJQY

Last but not least is a great little indie rock tune that I just can not stop playing.

A Bridge that will Burn by Moving Picture Show : RBN2.0 not available on PS3
    http://youtu.be/t9BeRv4iSo0

That's it for today and come back tomorrow for even more picks!

Another good track on Pro-drums, and not a shouty screamy vocal... so don't be put off by the Metal tag people!

    Day 4.....FIGHT!

First up is an awesome rock tune that's just dripping with Southern rock flavor.

Step Up (I'm on it) by Maylene and the Sons of Disaster : (Pro drums not charted)
(I couldn't find a full band video, but this song is insanely fun so go get it!) RBN1.0 available on PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/Si-WN6s8G-M

Second track of the day is one of ours. Rishloo has a lot of amazing tracks available in the Rock Band Network, but this one is my favorite. It starts out slow, breaks down into a challenging piano solo, then ramps up from there. Almost nine minutes of pure awesome, and Rishloo's lyrics just can't be beat.

Downhill by Rishloo : RBN2.0 available on PS3
    http://youtu.be/EXl1Bt21DI8

This is another song that has since joined my mp3 collection outside of Rock Band. Despite Pro drums not being charted, the fact that the drummer was a longtime member of Nine Inch Nails should let you know what you're in for. It's not going to rip your face off and feed it to you, but it's a pretty killer track go play. Again couldn't find a full band video so had to make due with just a drum only vid.

Take Control by New Regime : (Pro drums not charted) RBN1.0 not available on PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/jTxKRdX6f6Q

Last but not least is a great tune from Chiodos. It's got screaming and clean vox, and I know some people despise sceamed vox, but I hope that doesn't deter you from checking the song out. Again I can only find single instrument game play on this so here's a look at the Pro drum charts.

Caves by Chiodos : RBN2.0 available on PS3
    http://youtu.be/Ymp-JhQDvj0

    Back tomorrow with more!

Can't you guys play the songs with non pro-drum charts but hit your cymbals instead of the 'tom' anyways on the cymbal parts that you hear?

It works the other way around, actually. If you select pro drums on these tracks everything but red is a cymbal. On a few songs it's unnoticeable, on some songs it's bearable, but on a lot of them that have a lot of toms, and especially if there are a lot of tom rolls, they can be ruined. The feel becomes completely awkward.

For those like me with big DLC libraries who play set lists online a lot, these songs really gum up the works - they're not marked in-game in any way so you can't keep track of which ones they are, the other players have no idea there's anything wrong with them so they pick them if available, you're playing 4+ song sets so even if you knew which ones they were you wouldn't want to downgrade to plain drums for a bunch of songs just to be able to try to play one of these songs "right".... the only solution I've found is I just won't buy non-pro-drum tracks any more, period.

    On to day 5!

For those of you that are a bit tired of all the metal and angry yelling, I bring to you this little punk/posthardcore song :

Lady in a Blue Dress by Senses Fail : (Pro drums not charted.
Couldn't find full band play so this is the drums and guitar chart RBN1.0 available on PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/dx6CcRacYsI

Next up is on of our songs. This one is a power ballad! Don't see too many of those anymore. Don't let the slow pace and start of the song fool you. About 2/3rds of the way through the drums and guitars go into crazy hyperdrive so be prepared for that as this one will take you off guard if you're not careful.

Lethean Tears by Solution .45 : RBN2.0 available on PS3
    http://youtu.be/lOS7x-WV4xE

I'm not usally big into country music, but there's just something about this next song that just makes it a blast to play. Add in a few of your drinking buddies at a Rock Band party for extra levels of awesome.

All My Friends are Crazy by 500 Miles to Memphis : (Pro Drums not charted) RBN1.0 not available on PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/DSmCjusGqTg

Finally we got an awesome tune that I have found myself playing over and over. Love the song, it's fun in Rock band, and I've since purchased the full album from the band. Can't go wrong there!

This is Stabbing the Drama by Soilwork : RBN2.0 available on PS3

    Day 6!

First up is just a kick ass song that is so full of energy that it's flat out fun to play. I'd suppose the song would fall under the nu metal genre but don't let that stop you from checking this one out!

Unstoppable by White Line All Stars : (Pro drums not charted) RBN1.0 not available for PS3/Wii
    http://youtu.be/G9BqnT1VS5w

Next up is one of ours. Now I'm a KISS fan, but damn is this song funny. An awesome little punk song where the band details what they plan to do when they become the biggest band in the world...all the while poking fun at legendary band KISS.

(also for bonus points...if you want to convince Fat Wreck Chords to bring more of their bands into the game : NOFX, Rise Against, Anti-Flag, Less Than Jake, Against Me, etc), then you need to pick up this track to convince them it's worth their time to bring more music to the game ;) )

Bigger than KISS by Teenage Bottlerocket : RBN2.0 available for PS3
    http://youtu.be/8F59jpOJnVM

This next rock song is just drippin' with so much southern style you'd swear it was Cajun flavored.
    Check it out!

Torture by Rival Sons : RBN2.0 available for PS3
    http://youtu.be/tNcSRzlIBS4

This one's got the harsh screamy vocal, but this song is so awesome I just wanted to include it on the list (and I actually like the song so there's that :D ). This song will try to destroy you on just about every instrument but vocals, and hey just imagine the fun you'll have telling your friends that the lead singer...the one that sounds more manly than your most manliest of friends...is a woman :D

This is Nemesis by Arch Enemy : RBN2.0 available on PS3

I definitely think it's best to pick by preference a bit. Not all songs are created equal, after all :). I think it would be best to pick songs based on how much you like them, and how much you think they will appeal to others, rather than sticking them in a random generator. Also, of course it will be best to list reasons why the song is great.

Still, I'll need to look for the old thread. There were definitely some good choices in there.

What he's saying (J-Roc) is that why can't you play them on standard drums (not Pro).

So everything shows up as pads, then when you hear the cymbal sounds use your cymbals on your drum kit. THAT'S what I used to do when I had the cymbals in Rock Band 2 before the pro drum charts in Rock Band 3 allowed cymbal charts on screen.

Yeah it's not perfect, but it's better than everything being cymbals :)

Obviously the best solution would be they were all charted right, but we have to work with what we have to work with.

Well dang, I completely misread that. Nevermind, sorry J-Roc.

That's what I used to do with RB 2 songs as well, since I picked up the Ion kit at launch and the cymbals soon afterwards. So moving from regular to pro when RB3 came out wasn't all that much of a pain; plus it made disco beats a lot easier for me.
