"Rock Band developer Harmonix is the next studio on a growing list apparently working on a title for the next generation of consoles, according to a job listing from the music game specialists.

The job listing notes that the successful candidate will "work closely with our world-class artists to bring their work to life on brand new IP and next-generation consoles."

There's other job listings on the Harmonix website dug up by Twitter-based internet sleuth Superannuation that could possibly pertain to a music game that's also a "unique motion-gaming IP" that could even possibly include combat encounters alongside player exploration. Sounds like an intriguing mix..."

Yeah, don't read too much into it yet, Mr. Last Paragraph, you.

Yeah that's what I took out of it, too.

And with the Wii U coming really soon and the PS4/Orbis and the Nextbox/whateveritgetscalled not too far off either, it doesn't make much sense for HMX to develop their next retail title for this generation. I'll be a little surprised if there aren't least PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of it, though.

and after looking at 1 of the job descriptions, 2 things popped out for me:

    http://www.careersarcade.com/jobs/2012/4/24/senior-level-designer-harmonix-cambridge-ma.html
1: Use proprietary worldbuilding tools to place combat encounters, environmental interactions, AI behaviors and other scripted elements.

    2. Experience with and passion for open-world or landscape-based games.

Hopefully the new IP won't mean resources sucked away from RB4/DC3.

Thinking more positively: maybe it will be the test bed for RB/DC stuff.

Not sure how you equated Microsoft distributing their new console technology to Fender finding a new company who makes the chipset used in Squiers, but hey, I'm just pumped I could understand what you said.

I've given up on trying to guess about things like this anymore. Apparently my imagination is too wild to speculate on such things.

I'd still buy a copy of MY version of "Rock Band World" in half a heart beat.

It's not your imagination, it's your inability to grasp what the actual majority wants.

Sure it is. Because the things you like are the only things anyone likes. Well, except me of course.

I never claimed I was universally right, only that your idea of a Rock Band RPG as something enough people wanted was wrong.

Because you took a poll, amirite?

There were plenty of people that posted in my thread that they would snap up my ideas if implemented. You want to ignore them, that's fine. They aren't exactly a poll either, but PLEASE don't pretend you know what the majority wants without ANY evidence to back it up other than your pomposity.

Plenty of people? Like how many? Ten? There's not even 5,000 active members, compared to the several million copies of RB2 floating around. Let's say there were 2 million people at the height of RB2. There were more, but let's say. You've got a 0.25% attach rate to your RPG idea if every single active member bought it.

And I said that my thread wasn't a poll. I'm not the one that presumes to have his finger on the pulse of the majority as you have just claimed to.

After all you have just appointed yourself spokeman for "the majority" two posts ago. Based on what only you could imagine.

Is that just the majority of people that play this game or 51%+ of the entire world population you're representing?

What an awesome responsibility it must be, You're Haughtiness.

Before even worrying about what HMX might have in store...gotta see what the consoles offer first, make choice based on that (if PS4 is compatible with everything I have now, that'd be where to go. If not...then figure out which does what to appeal to me better) save up the mucho $$$$$$$$ to buy one... then hope the first run of next gen works right.... THEN worry about games :p

    BREAKING NEWS!!!

We've had this info on our jobs site for months, don't know why it's just started making the rounds now. Hopefully it helps spread the word and reaches quality devs to help with future development.

You really need to have a talk with yourself. :) I can understand the objection to the fact that a few people on the forum have no relevance on the actual success of the game in the marketplace. I can't understand how you would say that the concept is wrong without having you just saying that you think you're right. In example, did you read any studies done on popularity of MMORPG? I'm seriously asking, I'm interested in understanding why you think this is wrong as a concept.

I've always thought the Dance Central engine could be generalized for other purposes, I wonder if this is a step along those lines.

The software basically judges your movements and compares them against a recorded script, there is no reason they couldn't change the script from a dance routine, to an action sequence, a battle, chase scene, etc. and put a storyline behind it.
