Just recorded the latest @Harmonix podcast where we yammered on about our Top 5 music related movies. What are your essentials?
So, what are yours?

For me:

1. This Is Spinal Tap
2. Velvet Goldmine
3. 24 Hour Party People
4. The Wall
5. Heavy Metal

An honorable mention to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's a movie that makes fun of B-movies through rock music, so it sort of counts as being "music related".

    1. Grosse Pointe Blank (this movie holds a special place in my heart, even though the next one is more of a music movie).

The other three I listed were Once, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Wayne's World, although I also heard some excellent contributions including O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Blues Brothers, Almost Famous, and Dave Chapelle's Block Party (at which point I also offered Stop Making Sense).

Top 5's exclude way too many.

But is this listing our Top 5 "music related movies" or Top 5 musicals? Because there's a big difference there and I would classify Little Shop as a musical.

All musicals are music related but not all music related movies are musicals.

Forgot about Across the Universe. I know some weird, Beatles-purists people hated it, but it was fantastic.

Every time someone mentions Bono I think of Peter Stormare. I dont know why but when I realize they arent the same person I get sad.

Honorable mention: Rock 'n Roll High School.

    5. Bandslam
Horribly underrated/overlooked. Probably because anyone that would like it sees Vanessa Hudgens and Aly Michalka, say ewww then runs away. Anyone that wants to see those 2 probably scoff at all the "old people music" then don't like it. Plus it's almost a full 2 hours so kinda long.

    4. Wayne's World
How has no one mentioned this? Party on,party time excellent, schwing,Alice Cooper,Queen, grey pupon,no Stairway...it's a classic!

    3. The Runaways
What a great story. Lita Ford apparently didn't want much with to do with it so I guess it's missing a bit but otherwise fantastic. I was certain Michael Shannon would get an oscar nod for supporting actor but I guess the part wasn't big enough. I guess it's possible people skipped it because "eww those girls are from Twilight,I'm not watching this." Yah well they make out for about 3 minutes to I Wanna Be Your Dog.

    2. Heavy Metal
Awesome soundtrack and love the anthology set up. It was on TV a lot in Canada long ago. Thanks to South Park it's better known...and you do so get a good look at her boobs. Still holds up even thanks to it all being sci-fi/fantasy and using classic rock which is still classic.

    1. Rocky Horror Picture Show
Nothing needs to be said here. Something probably should since it's so low everywhere else but yah.

Others worth a mention: Airheads,High Fidelity,Tommy,Bill & Ted movies,Across the Universe and The Blues Brothers.
