Harmonix at PAX 8/31 to 9/2 - Donut Related Hang Outs & Panels! See You There!

edited September 2012 in Announcements
Hey gang,

PAX is next week and we. are. STOKED. We'll be in Seattle from Friday 8/31 to Sunday 9/2 and we want to see all of you there. We've got a bunch of stuff going on, both on and off the floor, so READ ON!

FRIDAY

WE ARE HOSTING A TOP POT DONUT HANG OUT. This is very, very important. If you've never been, Top Pot is one of the most delicious things ever. They are also awesome folks and they've hosted private events for us before so we couldn't wait to come back and do another thing with our community. And you're invited!

If you're at PAX, or in the Seattle area, and you want to have some delicious donuts and hang out with some Harmonix developers then this is the event for you. Top Pot will be open from 7-9pm PT specifically to friends of Harmonix. Donuts and drinks are on us. Come. Hang out. Break bread with us. It'll be awesome, guaranteed.

AND as if that wasn't reason enough to come hang out, we're also using this Top Pot event as an opportunity to have Harmonix super fans sign up to participate in our Saturday panel (much more on that to follow). If you want to get involved in our Saturday evening Game Show Extravaganza, come sign up at the Top Pot hang out and you'll get to be a contestant on a deliriously bonkers game show and maybe even win some bad ass swag too.

Bulletpoints: Top Pot Downtown Seattle - 2124 5th Ave Seattle, WA 98121 (a short walk from the convention center) - 7 to 9pm PT Friday Night - Deliciousness - Game Show Extravaganza Sign Up

SATURDAY

WE ARE HOSTING A BIG DUMB GAME SHOW. The Harmonix Game Show Extravaganza has already been broadcast in all of the excellent PAX documents, but it is included here for your convenience.

Harmonix is proud to have one of the most well-informed communities in the industry, tapping into the rabid cross section of hardcore gamers and obsessive music fans. But do they know more about music gaming than the actual devs behind the genre-defining Rock Band and Dance Central franchises? COME FIND OUT. Attendees will compete against a panel of Harmonix celebrity guests on matters of music history, game-specific trivia and personal minutiae for a chance to win DLC codes, limited swag and ETERNAL GLORY! From the producers of “Are You Smarter Than A Harmonix Employee?” and “Win John Drake’s Money”, this panel promises healthy competition for fans of music gaming and the dizzying highs of Harmonix hilarity, all wrapped in the trappings of a ‘70’s game show. Come on down!
Panelists:

Aaron Trites [Manager, Community Development / Richard Dawson, Harmonix], John Drake [Director Of Communications & Brand Management / Paul Lynde, Harmonix], Eric Pope [Community Manager / Charles Nelson Reilly, Harmonix], Jessa Brezinski [Community Manager / Brett Somers, Harmonix], Annette Gonzalez [Community Manager / Rip Taylor, Harmonix]

We're always looking to push the envelope in terms of PAX panels and try to find interesting ways to engage the community, and this has all the makings of a classic Harmonix barn burner. This show runs from 9-10pm PT on Saturday night at Kraken Theater (aka Grand Hyatt 1st Floor). DON'T FORGET: if you want to be a contestant, come to the Top Pot event on Friday to sign up. We'll also have opportunities for people to get involved at the panel, as well as swag for attendees and participants. At the very least, even if you don't want to compete in a hilarious game show, it'll be a riot to watch.

Bulletpoints: PAX - Saturday - 9 to 10pm PT - Harmonix Game Show Extravaganza - Kraken Theater (aka Grand Hyatt 1st Floor) - Early sign up available on Friday at the Top Pot Social - Swag and Prizes

And, of course, we'll be on the show floor all weekend long. We'll have 6 kiosks for Rock Band Blitz, a stage for Dance Central 3, all sorts of goofy / awesome things to give away for both games and the full line up of the Harmonix Community Team. Even if you're not able to attend the Top Pot Social or the Harmonix Game Show Extravaganza, we hope you get a chance to swing by our booth, check out the games and say hello. The PAX crowd always rules and meeting people is awesome, so we hope to see you there!

Will we be fistfighting for panel spots? I must warn you, I've beaten Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Muhammed Ali in alleyfights, all in the last 6 months. The Ali fight was the easiest physically, but toughest emotionally.

Edit: Just saw that our hotel is super close to Top Pot (even closer than PAX is). In the interest of full disclosure, this knowledge gave me a bit of a chubby.

I'm definitely planning on being at the panel. Haven't missed one since you guys started doing them at PAX 08, and don't plan on starting anytime soon (was first in line for last year's... Have the 150lbs Dance Central necklace thing sitting next to me right now to prove it).

Don't know if I'll be around downtown to make it to the meet up on Friday night, but I'll definitely stop by if I can, and hopefully get in on participating in whatever stupidly fun thing this game show idea is for your panel.

:( there's no good New York area conventions. All we get is NYCC and it's just the remainders of San Diego.

Its much easier for you(being NY/NJ) to get to Boston than it is for me(Midwest).

Just for comparison it would take me 34 hours by Amtrak and 3 hours from New York Amtrak.

34 ****ing hours on a train JESUS

Henry, I swear you keep scheduling these meetups for when I'm busy Enforcing just to spite me, probably because I keep giving you Muscle Milk. I'll see if I can sneak away for a half hour so that I can at least signup for the game show, as my ass will definitely be there.

Hey we could have a HMX party in my backyard. All we need is to give my address out to strangers on the internet, get the HMX crew here, and have my parents give me the thumbs up.

I remember hearing about something being streamed I dont know if its the panel though. I think PAX has(had?) a rule against streaming panels.

From the letter that comes with the badges:
For friends who could not attend (or for you, in your hotel room, trying to rest your beleaguered human frame) many panels will be streamed this year via TwitchTV.

Awesome panel streak! Hope you can make it to both, but one would be more than enough wacky HMX action to appease most mortals.

NYCC is getting better and better every year. It's not as multimedia focused as SDCC, but for comics specifically NYCC may be a better show.

Cmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan sure it is. I day trip it to NYC all the time, $25 round trip on Bolt Bus. Acela is even faster, but it's like $100. Still, totally day tripable.

OH NO! Damn your helpfulness! I'm sure we will be seeing you at some point during the show, but hopefully you'll make able to make it out to Top Pot for a bit. p.s. Please, no more Muscle Milk. My quads are bursting.

It should be, yep. We've been told by PAX that our panel (and possibly all panels in our hall) will be broadcast via TwitchTV. We'll post links when we have them. We'll also likely record and host afterwards.

They started streaming panels on Twitch.TV with PAX East this year.

I've read that all of the panels from the Kraken Theatre, where the HMX panel is happening, are going to be streamed this year (along with the main theatre), but I haven't been able to find official confirmation on that.

Serious lack of NIPSEY RUSSELL up in this joint.

Seriously, this sounds awesome. Second time in my life that I wished i lived in Seattle.

The other was "Stakeout", which I realize was filmed in Vancouver, but whatever. 1987 Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez mustaches FTW.

Phoenix Comic Con is actually totally badass. I went 2 years ago to assist with a Rock Band tournament that Wil Wheaton hosted. There was also a Nerd Prom, loads of costume contests and a ton of after hours concerts and events. The show flow wasn't as wild, but there were a few great dealers there and I probably left with about 100 books that I had to ship back home because they wouldn't fit in my luggage. So yeah, Arizona is doing okay. :)

I've done the Harmonix hang-out every year I've been to PAX (starting with the year I saw Sean introduced to the chocolate bacontini) and will definitely be doing it this year; if you're at PAX and think you can afford to miss this experience, think again.

I miss the days when SDCC was all about the comics and toys (I've been going since the 90's and it seems like every year Comicon is less and less a comic convention) :(

We look to possibly be doing Phoenix Comicon next year, a lot of my dealer buddies have been telling us to get out beyond just the Bay Area conventions and said Phoenix was a BLAST :) (We have Big Wow, Wondercon, Robo-toyfest and lots of smaller, but still cool, shows :) ) Hey Henry, LMK what books you're looking for...Your freindly neighborhood comic book guy (probably too long for a custom title) would be more than happy to hook you up :)

Sorry I can't make it to PAX though, sound slike fun... :(
