Hi guys.

Take a look at this video I made. It's me playing pro keys on RB3, but I think you'll agree this is no ordinary "let's play".

Be aware that this game is rated T for teen and so the video is to be considered PG-13.

I repeat: NSFW... since you shouldn't be watching youtube while you work anyway!

Capturing was done on a Hauppage! and editing on Pinnacle. I haven't seen anyone post videos like this, so I decided to finally do one myself. I'll make a couple more and see what level of interest there is on these.

Some of the things that might be of interest:
You can see all 5 instruments on stage.
Mixed video with performance mode
Freckles on the keyboardist
Tan lines
Custom makeup
Stockings on the drummer
and many more things... I just dislike the default Barbie look, so I tried to change things up.

When I watch a pro keys/guitar/bass/drums video, I prefer having the hands/instrument view, AKA a camera filming yourself playing, I have no interest in the background of the game.

But some people might like that, who knows.

Yes, for some people that is true, and I did consider it for a while... but decided not to go that way because honestly: my playing skill on a real keyboard isn't much to brag about, so I decided to focus on the "game" instead. Other people do videos the way you say, so that'll cover all the bases, right?

Anyway, whatever we can do to promote this game is a plus, right?

Personally I never really cared of the look, the customization, the background video, or anything about this. It feels nice to see a girl drumming when it's really fast/technical metal though, you don't see that every day,

But I know some other people do care. I only care about the gameplay, really.

For the love of God, don't put NSFW tags on stuff that's safe for work. The tag is used only for porn or any other "immoral" material of the such.

I have to say I really like this approach. When I get set up to make videos again (should be sometime in late April if all goes well) I think I might steal some of your ideas and keep my side bar close up of my hand and keyboard to make the Alternitys of the world happy too.

Hope you don't mind me borrowing from you, dantenoc.

I tend to agree with you, but wanted to err on the safe side none the less. Didn't want some angry parent ranting about "you can see the drummers underwear!", and "video games are targeting our children"... that kind of thing, you know?

But maybe I should get bolder with my videos, I did edit out a couple of things... I'll think about it.

    Thanks for the feedback

The way I see it, if you're on the forums for this game, you should be aware of the most "extreme" content the game has, since you've most likely played it before. There's nothing here that would really make someone familiar with the game shocked.

Just want to note that as someone who values venue work a lot, this was really cool. I wish that more people paid attention to it (author and audience alike), so stuff like this is great. Very nice job on the editing and characters, too.

Edit: I also love the annotations, too. You and my wife have something in common: you really like your band!

Just wanted to say great job on the post-editing. I also use Pinnacle for quite a bit of editing and I have to say, I saw ideas there I hadn't though of. No matter how powerful the software is you still need to have the artistic component that obviously you have.

Question: how many videos did you use there? I can see at least one of your hand (multiple takes or someone moving the camera around?), the one of your keyboard performance, and at least one in performance mode with all instruments being played and one with the regular 4 instruments (i.e. in some shots you have the AIM mode venue where in other shots you have the authored venue).

Wow! Very creative and obviously a LOT of work involved in making the videos (with the number of takes). Very enjoyable to watch, far above and beyond the typical gameplay vids you can find. I doubt many would have the kind of patience you do to create these.

    Are those your regular characters?
    Do you take requests?
I'd love to see you create some "in character" (if you're any good at creating decent representations of the band) Depeche Mode videos... And on the "bright side" you wouldn't even need a separate series of videos to capture a bassist :)

    Fifth video now up:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_611720&feature=iv&src_vid=ad-TcUYcIPc&v=fWGfZCZDt0w
Seeing how the last song didn't do so well and the fact that the others haven't really taken off either, I decided to change things up and go with a very popular song: the smash hit from the 80's "I ran (so far away)" by "A flock of seagulls". Ranked #1 on the leaderboard on Pro keyboard when I "filmed" this.

The video makes more sense if you've seen the original music video for the song, so take a look at that one as well. Link provided in the youtube video.

Comments and feedback are appreciated ;)

Very nice keyboard work. I like how you were in overdrive for nearly the entire song.

...and of course, cool video like all your others. I'm still waiting for some Depeche Mode ...in character. :)

I still have a couple of ideas left to make... I'm definetly considering it, but we'll see... depends on how well I can recreate them, I guess :)

This time it's the great Classic Rock anthem "Fortunate Son" by CCR, a song that captures "a moment" for a whole generation. Instrument is Pro Bass, played on the mustang, but I switch to a real bass for the video.

I got hit with a couple of copyright notices from youtube, and as a result my videos are partially blocked... I thought I would avoid such problems by not monetizing my videos, but apparently that's not the case. Any advice? wouldn't these videos fit into the "fair use" category as parody? Any advice?

As I mentioned earlier, I got a youtube warning about the song copyright so the video may not be up for long, so watch it while it's still there! ;)

I took down the last two videos because of copyright reclamations. I may have to take down the Gymnopedie one for the same reason, we'll see (apparently, UMPG publishing believes they own a piece of music composed on the other side of the world during the 1800's).

Hope you guys watched them when you had the chance.
