March 2017 DLC Prediction Thread: Luck of the Fightin' Irish

  • Last time the music dropped to two a week, people predicted the imminent end of DLC, but it just meant they were working on a big new game mode that they didn't want to talk about just yet. Obviously I wish there were more songs, but if they say it's not the end of Rock Band, I'll believe them.

Don't forget that Harmonix announced the sunsetting of DLC way in advance last time.

February 13th was the announcement. April 2nd was the final song. So, a bit under two months. But, yeah, I guess we would get more notice than the month of. That's good.

I think people are a little nervous because, at the time they announced the end of RB3 DLC, they had already been releasing Blitz songs intermixed with regular DLC for a while. People saw that as a sign of the end, and that turned out to be the case.
So every time something changes (like re-releases of disc songs, or dropping from 3 songs to 2 again), people are left wondering if we're in that ramping-down-before-the-announcement phase.

I'm not that pessimistic yet, but I am keeping my eyes open.

Hey, guys, why don't we post our predictions of March instead of jokingly assuming that Rock Band 4 is going to end on March?

Hear's my prediction (March will get 5 DLC releases as oppose to 4, since the first one will start on March 2nd)...

3/2: Celebrating Zootopia (To celebrate the first anniversary of Zootopia (My favorite Disney Movie) Each song is taken off of the Spotify Playlists of the Zootopia characters + it's main theme song)
    - Adam Ant - Goody Two Shoes (Dawn Bellwether)
    - Cream - Sunshine of Your Love (Mr.Big)
    - Demi Lovato - Cool For The Summer (Benjamin Clawhauser)
    - Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (Gazelle)
    - Newcleus - Jam On It (Finnick)
    - Shakira - Try Everything (Theme Song)
    - Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild (Nick Wilde)
    - Survivor - Eye of The Tiger (Judy Hopps, RB2 Legacy Disc Track)
    - Uriah Heep - Easy Livin' (Yax)
    - Zapp - I Want to Be Your Man (Flash Slothmore)

3/9: 1990s Pack (In similiar vein to the Solid 70s Pack)
    - Alice in Chains - Man In The Box (RB2 Legacy Disc Track)
    - Days of the New - Touch, Peel and Stand
    - Nirvana - In Bloom (RB1 Legacy Disc Track)

3/16: U2 Essentials 02 (Makes sense to release this on the day before St.Paddy's Day)
    - Beautiful Day
    - Bullet The Blue Sky
    - Every Breaking Wave
    - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
    - Mysterious Ways
    - Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of

3/23: Disney Theme Songs 01 (To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, features 3 songs from 3 announced Disney Movies in Kingdom Hearts 3)
    - Fall Out Boy - Immortals (Big Hero 6)
    - Grace Porter - Something That I Want (Tangled)
    - Michael Bolton - Go To Distance (Hercules)

3/30: Thirty Seconds to Mars 01 (See what I did here)
    - City of Angels
    - From Yesterday
    - Up in the Air
  • Michael Bolton...

THERE'S a name that'd be neat and hilarious.

The cover of When a Man Loves a Woman for instance...

My prediction: 2 songs a week (1 new, 1 repeat) with an exception for a very wishlist-y artist pack (plus I'm seeing them live late March  )

    Mar 2 - Random singles
    One Republic - Counting Stars
The Killers - When You Were Young

Mar 9 - Female vocals singles (for International Women’s Day)
Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know
Go-Go's - We Got the Beat
Halestorm - Love Bites (So Do I)

Mar 16 - Two Door Cinema Club 01 (Irish artist for St. Patrick’s)
    Something Good Can Work
    What You Know
    Sun
    Are You Ready? (Wreck)

    Mar 23 - 90's singles
New Radicals - You Get What You Give
    Blur - Song 2

    Mar 30 - Modern rock
The Black Keys - Gold on the Ceiling
    The Strokes - Reptilia

EDIT: Noticed a lack of 80's in my original prediction, so changing Alanis for Go-Go's.

You guys should tell us more about how we're stopping DLC or whatever. We'd love to hear when you decided on this.

Tell us why releasing only five new songs in February should make anyone feel optimistic about the future of Rock Band DLC. How can it possibly be viewed as anything but a bad sign? You guys do realize that you have significant power to control the perception of your own game, right? Instead of posting snarky comments, why not say something that actually addresses these very real concerns?
They had to relicense the 4 disc songs for sale. So there are 9 newly licensed songs in Feb. Iirc there was a month last year with only 8 songs and dlc is still going.

Holiday breaks just happened so to see a slow down is not surprising. A bit too much of a slowdown for my tastes (especially since I have all the exports but don't mind people without then getting a shot at them), but I'm not panicking yet.

    Week 4:
    Mixed singles week
"I Hate Myself and Want To Die" by Nirvana

Ok, I lol'd hard at this.
  • GLaDOS said:

    Week 1:
Please Don't Get The Wrong Impression Pack 01
"Everything Will Be Alright" by The Killers
"Don't Bury Me...I'm Still Not Dead" by Riverboat Gamblers (RB Rewind)
"Alive and Kicking" by Simple Minds

    Week 2:
It can't be as bad as it looks, right? Pack 01
"Paranoid" by Black Sabbath (RB Rewind)
    "Afraid" by The Neighborhood
"The Less I Know The Better" by Tame Impala

    Week 3:
    It's Over Pack 01
"The End of the World" by The Cure
"Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac (RB Rewind)
"Hate To Say I Told You So" by The Hives

    Week 4:
    Mixed singles week
    "I Miss You" by Incubus
"I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5 (RB Rewind)
"I Hate Myself and Want To Die" by Nirvana
"Say It Ain't So" by Weezer (RB Rewind)

    Week 5:
    Switchfoot Pack 01
    "Dare You To Move"
    "Float"
    "Stars"

I don't blame you if you've forgotten about the fact that you can still export Rock Band 3 until Harmonix says that you can't anymore (To put it bluntly, Don't Bury Me...I'm Still Not Dead can still be gotten by doing the Rock Band 3 Export), I would replace that with a different RB Rewind song that matches the theme.
  • If there is an Irish theme for St. Patrick's Day, I'd love to see Thin Lizzy.

    Emerald
    Whiskey in the Jar
    Bad Reputation

    Would be a solid pack.

I thought about that after I typed it, but considering the whole post is a joke anyway I don't supremely see the need to bother fixing it

Difference is they didn't have to relicense the Blitz songs (and I have a strong feeling the GD songs were licensed with the inevitable rerelease of them as dlc after x amount of time).

They do have to relicense these disc songs. So that means they are still spending money on dlc.

9 songs is worrisome looking, but that happened last year and dlc is still going.

And they semi committed to dlc throughout the year by what they said about legacy disc tracks.

No, @HMXOwl, I know Josh has said that you learned from the Green Day releases and plan to stretch super thin over the next several months, so I know we're "okay", so to say.

If we can swing Goodbye Stranger, though...

    I think they're paranoid

    It's complicated

Real talk guys, if it was that bad, there'd be a press release/blog about it. So, let's try and just wishlist stuff instead :p
they never released a press release, blog, etc the first time DLC came to an end until it actually did end. why would it be any different this time? they're still trying to get people to buy Rivals and hawking Online Play, announcing (or even hinting) that DLC was ending probably wouldn't help their sales.

Eh? I didn't hear you the first time (Canadian rewind-ish) week
You Oughtta Know by Alanis Morrisette
American Woman by The Guess Who
Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane (or Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams if you wanna go full rewind.)
  • tnevakertnevaker Road Warrior

If DLC ends in March I'll email every Harmonix address I can find a video of me playing the Twisted Sister songs in sequence. (We're Not Gonna Take It, I Wanna Rock) I will send this email once an hour until DLC starts again or death takes me.

P.S. I don't think it's ending. As the Hitchhiker's Guide firmly suggests, "DON'T PANIC!" (at the Disco).

don't give GNF any ideas, or we're in for even more Coldplay

(actually, Don't Panic is one Coldplay song i'd enjoy having)
  • Everyone is getting paranoid here.

But at the same time we should be getting Paranoid from the rewind.
  • Was I Think I'm Paranoid too subtle?
  • tnevakertnevaker Road Warrior

St. Patrick's Day is smack dab in the middle of this month, so does this mean the return of U2?

Well, we already have Closing Time and American Pie, what are we going to use this time?

U2 - With or Without You

Or other Irish artists for that matter?

The Cranberries - When You're Gone
    The Corrs - Goodbye
Thin Lizzy - The Sun Goes Down
    Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
Stiff Little Fingers - Just Fade Away
My Bloody Valentine - No Place to Go (would've worked for February too, i suppose)
  • Was I Think I'm Paranoid too subtle?

Forget about subtlety, I want my Black Sabbath back.

Because I have nothing better to do.

    Life in Owlcolour II
(Like Technicolour, but with more WHOOO WHOOO WHOOOO)

    Owldise
(That'd be a music video; a real life Rowlett costume)

    A Sky Full of Owls
    (The Birds, but with EDM)

God Put a Smile upon Owl's Face
    (It doesn't take much)

    Shiver
(I got nothing for this one, but it's awesome so it doesn't matter)

    Owl Hill
(I can totally see this one soundtracking a battle)

  • You've been looking in that song's direction. But you've paid it no attention.

But that was before you ruled the world (or the forums).
