Rock Band 4 at a wedding reception... song suggestions?

Ok, so here is the plan:

I've been invited as best man to my mom's wedding and I want to bring my Xbox One, guitars, drums, mics, etc. to the wedding reception for some entertainment.

Location: The building next door ("educational building") owned by the Lutheran church in Baltimore, MD, 21221

Oh yeah... the bride and groom are unaware of these plans (neither of which even view these forums).

I have over 1,200 songs (including Rivals, DLC purchases, RB1, RB2, RB3, Lego, Green Day, and AC/DC Live). For the full list, head over to DLCquickplay.com: http://dlcquickplay.com/user/lightsup55

I believe I can get someone on drums (who plays real drums) and the church choir members can assist with vocals.

Me (Timothy):
Birth year: 1983
Age: 33
Favorite genre: Classic Rock
Instrument: Guitar/bass

The bride (my mother, Beth):
Birth year: 1956
Age: 61
Favorite genre: Classic Rock
Instrument: Vocals

The groom (soon to be stepfather, Mike):
Birth year: 1955
Age: 62
Favorite genre: Classic Rock
Instrument: Vocals

Some songs I had in mind (might update later):
  • "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang
  • "Take Me Home Tonight" by Eddie Money (featuring Ronnie Spector) - It is a different song that is on Rock Band.

I remembered something by Eddie Money, but you might be right. Either way, good song.

And... DLCquickplay.com is down again, so I can't easily see my song collection.

I find it funny that I have 3/4 of those (and that I'm basically the only person I know who likes Paradise By the Dashboard Lights).
I sang that duet with my sister at one of my Rock Band parties, and I was already getting pretty creeped out before we were even a third of the way through.

I'm a trooper, though, and stuck it out.

Oh the duet is so awesome lol I love singing that song by myself, but when you have someone do the male and someone do the female XD things get much more fun! I legitimately enjoy that song - as for its lyrics, I find them quite funny.

Seriously, I've wanted that song in RB for a long time.

Well obviously "Shout" by The Isley Brothers now!

Marry You seems like an apt choice.

Are you planning on getting the crowd involved and playing as well?

Like Karaoke places, if you can get printouts of your song selection, people can browse ahead of time and have something ready immediately when it's their turn.

This way things can flow smoothly with as little dead air as possible.

Also you'll need to calibrate beforehand and hopefully the audio and video equipment is set up well in advance.
  • Can't believe no one recommended Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale! THE wedding song.
  • As another '80's kid, you must have "Time After Time" by Cindi Lauper, and my mom and I get emotional at Disturbed's "Sound of Silence"; I bet it would sound beautiful by a choir singer, of course "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions" is a karaoke must, in addition to "Africa" for harmony, "Bold As Love" would be my Hendrix pick, and "One" by U2 is another crowd pleaser. You must have "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner though. Seriously, it has a church choir singing harmony! If you don't have it, buy it, I can almost guarantee it's going to be a favorite; I know I would want it at my wedding. I have the point of view of a vocalist only, so I can't say for the other instruments, but those would be my top picks. I myself was born in 1981 and is as big a fan of Classic Rock as I am of Nu-Metal, which says a lot as I am an outspoken advocate of Disturbed on RB. ;)

Congrats to your mom and her new husband, and good luck to you and your plan. I wish you the best! :)
  • LoopyChewLoopyChew Wordsmith
Actually yeah. Let one of them know (or talk to one of the people in charge of the wedding, at least) and see if they're okay with it.

Best song I can suggest is - don't bring rock band stuff to your moms wedding. You may think it's cute but without asking her you look like a selfish ass.

This. It's her wedding. I know she's your mom, but it's generally bad taste to bring or do something without permission at a wedding. Bring the idea up to her and see how she feels about it. If it's anything like most weddings I've been to, she won't have time to play anyway.
  • The lack of "Pretty little thing called love" in the lists is disturbing.

Lots of great suggestions already so just to be the snarkly ****, I'm going with:

    Du Hast - Rammstein
  • tnevakertnevaker Road Warrior

The lack of "Pretty little thing called love" in the lists is disturbing.

you could almost even say it's.... crazy.
