2018 DLC Output Prediction Thread

With 2017 coming to a close and the final 2017 DLC known (The Final Countdown, Hooked on a Feeling, Come on Eileen), what do you think 2018 will bring in general?

Here's some of my predictions:

RBVR soundtrack completed in RB4 by the time RBVR is 1 year old - There's only 9 new songs and 2 rewinds left so I think a few months is enough time to release them for RB4.

Rewinds continue after the 2 rewinds on RBVR are released - There's some rewinds I would be surprised if we didn't get by the end of the RB4 era (e.g. A-Punk [DropMix], Learn to Fly, Breakout, Almost Easy, Before I Forget).

DLC quantity is comparable to 2017 for April-December with January-March being fewer songs - To me looking back, RBVR launch felt like the start of a change in DLC strategy. So I think January will return to the generally 2 songs per week model with some weeks being 2 new songs and others being 1 new + 1 rewind.

All entitlements fixed except RBN by the end of 2018 - XB1 and SIEA aren't that far off completion. SIEE despite being further behind are still getting fixes (e.g. Ozzy 8 pack was just fixed yesterday). Note that this point is the main reason I don't think there'll be a hiatus next year, otherwise my 3rd point would've been hiatus before E3.

    - Most weeks will contain 3 songs (although not all of those will have 3 "new" songs. I'm expecting rewind to continue for the next couple of months or so.

    - Some weeks will have just new 1 song.

    - 35-40 new artists/bands to Rock Band; that's almost one every week! (see below for artist predictions)

    - Another season of "decades".

    - More "single artist" weeks. We've had a few this year in-between variety weeks. We had "Hootie & The Blowfish", "Avril Lavigne", "Lady Ga-Ga" and "Alice in Chains" to name but a few.

Likely artists to appear next year.

    Bill Haley & His Comets
    Bloc Party
    Calvin Harris
    The Cardigans
    Cee-Lo Green/Gnarls Barkley
    Dead or Alive
    Dolly Parton
    Electric Light Orchestra
    George Benson
    George Ezra
    Greta Van Fleet
    Kid Rock
Michael Jackson (as a solo artist)
    New Radicals
    Peter Gabriel
    The Pigeon Detectives
    The Pogues
    Rag N Bone Man
    The Rasmus
    Scissor Sisters
    Then Jerico
    The Verve
    Village People

During the year I expect to see any of the following songs (from artists already in Rock Band)

Aerosmith - Walk This Way (feat. RUN DMC)
Darkness - All The Pretty Girls
Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough
Dire Straits - Money For Nothing
Ed Sheeran - Lego House, Thinking Out Loud
Elvis Presley - Always On My Mind, Way Down, Hound Dog
    Elton John - Rocket Man
    New Order - True Faith
Queen - A Kind of Magic, Breakthru
U2 - Beautiful Day, New Years Day

    - Unlikely but possible prediction = The 4 letter word band beginning with M that had a song in the first Rock Band, make a return WITH that song as a Rewind + one or two new ones. Seeing that Oasis and Radiohead came back in 2017, this prediction doesn't seem so crazy anymore.

@V8VANTAGE Hootie & The Blowfish and Avril Lavigne were last year, we only got 2 single artist packs this year (Lady Gaga, Alice in Chains).
  • Just 4 songs:

    Danzig - Mother
Billy Squier - Lonely is The Night
Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover
    Cream - White Room

    Then we’re done.
  • tdc002tdc002 Road Warrior
My gut instinct is it's gonna be probably on par with this year (a new song or two a week), but the recent blog post has me rethinking that.
HOPEFULLY, we can get back to artist packs and over 3 songs a week, but I'm not holding my breath.
  • I'm definitely hoping for more 80's alternative/electronic music. Depeche Mode, New Order, Yaz, Erasure, Marc Almond.
Also just more classic disco. Donna Summer, Tina Marie, Abba.
  • More 80's assuming licenses can be obtained for these classics.

    Nu Shooz-I can't wait
    Gary Numan-Cars
    The Cure-Close to me
    Billy Squire-The Big Beat
    Donnie iris-Ah Leah
    Naked Eyes-Promises promises
    UB40-Red Red Wine
Sniff n the Tears-Driver's Seat (Boogie Nights strk)
  • Nilsen31Nilsen31 Opening Act
    Dizz Knee Land by dada
  • Drownin' - Tying Tiffany
  • more cruddy '10s "indie" rock
  • more cruddy '10s "indie" rock

    You spelled 'pop' wrong.
  • With Seether being added, and Portugal. The Man and Third Eye Blind already having songs out, I can see more of the bigger RBN artists making the jump across, possibly taking a few RBN tracks with them. In particular I'm hoping for some of the metal bands such as Arch Enemy and Alestorm, but I could see anything with a large following doing it really.

Based on how it's been so far I'm expecting 2 songs a week for the most part, maybe with the occasional artist or themed 3-pack.

Mostly I think it will be a mix of older songs (particularly one-hit wonders) and modern pop. I'm not sure in what form those will come though.
  • I predict that DLC output for Rock Band will continue at least through the end of 2018.
