The "More Metal" Thread for Underrepresented Metal Artists: A Definitive Collection

1
Since I kind of promised this on the March DLC prediction thread, here it is! For those who are unaware, this thread simply compiles metal artists that deserve more songs or simply aren't in the game yet, organized roughly by genre. Consider it like a "Completing X Thing" thread but for an entire vast genre. I'm not sure really how else to describe it, but I'll just cut to the chase and start out with stuff. All genre headings are place-holders, and I'll begin adding stuff shortly and will add onto it as I think of more acts and as more people suggest stuff.

Gotta have Accept for Traditional. Forbidden, Death Angel and Testament for Thrash. Not sure where they'd go (Traditional is closest, I think), but Vicious Rumors should be in the mix.

Done! I put Vicious Rumors under power metal, given that they're one of the early pioneers of the genre like Helloween and Manowar.
  • I love you for making this thread.

Seconding: Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Saxon, Scorpions, Amon Amarth, Death, Emperor, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Venom, Anthrax, Exodus, Megadeth, Metallica, Municipal Waste, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Extreme, L.A. Guns, Mr. Big, Twisted Sister, Blind Guardian, Cradle of Filth, DragonForce, Epica, Helloween, Kamelot, Nightwish, Paradise Lost, Sonata Arctica, Type O Negative, Within Temptation, Bullet For my Valentine, Marilyn Manson, Strapping Young Lad, System of a Down, Clutch, Mastodon, Red Fang, Opeth, Orgy, Rammstein, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Alestorm, Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani

    Would add:
    Proto-Metal/Traditional Heavy Metal/NWOBHM
    - Budgie
    - Coven
    - Diamond Head
    - Girlschool
    - Iron Maiden (pre-Dickinson + Fear of the Dark onwards)

Not sure where to put them
    - Russkaja
    - Skindred
  • I would say Russkaja is ska, Skindred is Nu metal. I wish we got something from the first and we got their RBN song back from the second (it was only $1, even better!).

Done, all of those are now neatly sorted among everything else! Thanks for the suggestions too, there's quite a few of those I glossed over or simply forgot when I was putting everything together.
  • Did someone say suggestions?

Extreme (Death, black, grindcore and doom): BOLT THROWER, Sleep, Witchfinder General, Cryptopsy, Pig Destroyer, Repulsion, Impaled, Demilich, Heaven Shall Burn, Debauchery, Inquisition, Church of Misery, Rotten Sound, Wormrot, The Lurking Fear, Macabre, Necrophagist, Sacriphyx, Batushka, Skaven, Spaceslug, Spawn of Possession, Vader, Forgotten Woods, Deeds of Flesh, Brujeria, Abbath, Insect Warfare, P.L.F, Agathocles, Anaal Nathrakh, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Brutal Truth, Cloud Rat, Nasum

Folk: Gallowbraid, Dalriada, Leprechaun, Mägo de Oz.
    Obligatory "I love Elvenking!" comment.

Sludge: Iron Monkey, Eyehategod, Black Cobra, Baroness

Thrash: Ghoul, Coroner, D.R.I, S.O.D, Demolition Hammer, Iron Reagan, GWAR, Nuclear Assault, Uncle Slam, Dark Angel, Sudden Impact, Kreator

Prog: Gojira, Schizoid Lloyd, Subterranean Masquerade, Sigh

Power and Symphonic: Liege Lord, Orden Ogan, Galneryus, Versailles, Powerwolf, Therion, White Skull, Wuthering Heights, Silent Knight, Mezarkabul, Evertale,

    Crust: Doom, Electro Hippies, Skitsystem

I think Infant Anihilator should be deathcore.

This is going to be the greatest list ever.
  • It just dawned on me that pretty much every metal band that's not Avenged Sevenfold or Disturbed is eligible for this thread.

Still, a few more I would suggest that I forgot last time.
    - The Agonist (either extreme or avant-garde)
    - Babymetal (another "no idea" one)
    - Lita Ford (either trad or glam)

    Saigon Kick

I would add Periphery and Demon Hunter from RBN; which is Djent and I guess Alt-Metal to not stick Demon Hunter with the dreaded "Christian" label. Two more recognizable names would be Trivium and Sevendust, and for female led bands, one of my newer favorites is "Once Human", which is of the heavier genres, and can't forget In this Moment starting at the awesome "Blood" album. ;) Finally, a personal choice is David Draiman's industrial project "Device".
  • Surprised Satan is missing from the NWOBHM list. Could also add Blitzkrieg, Demon, Holocaust.

For some others missing Manilla Road, Heavy Load, Pagan Altar, Slough Feg, Cirith Ungol, Exciter just to name a few.
  • Would you consider Black Label Society under Metal? If so, definitely need some of that in my life.
  • 3 Inches of Blood!

  • Thanks for the suggestions!

I haven't updated in a while (I've been quite busy), but when I have the time, I'll update the list!

One for power or trad that I have been getting into massively lately: Lovebites

(Some of their songs sound more like traditional metal, some are more power like the one I linked above.)
  • Don't care much for the vocals, but the music's pretty rippin'. Those girls can play!

    Cool star cymbals, too.
  • Machine Head:

  • Others may have suggested these, I'm probably seconding, thirding, or fourthing a lot of these, as I've only seen what the OP has included thus far. I'm also a bit confused with the genre categorization, not all doom metal is extreme, Candlemass is epic doom metal afaik and is more akin to Iron Maiden plus Black Sabbath's doomier stuff, at least from what I've heard from them. Dark metal would also better fit with extreme metal, doom, or folk as those are the genres that make up dark metal's mix afaik.
