  • While I am disappointed we still haven't gotten Against the Current :'( , it was a decent year for me.

    1. Skid Row - "I Remember You"
    2. Heart - "Crazy on You"
    3. Nine Days - "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)"
    4. Gavin DeGraw - "I Don't Want to Be"
    5. Blues Traveler - "Run-Around"
    6. Joe Jackson - "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" - totally new song to me. Love the flow of it. :)
    7. Heart - "Magic Man"
    8. The Eiffels - "Body Like That" - another new song to me. Similar to other artists out there, but I really like it.
    9. Billy Squier - "Lonely is the Night"
    10. Rupert Holmes - "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" - TOTAL surprise. I would never, ever imagine buying this song in iTunes. But the DLC preview struck a chord with me. Visions of The Sweetest Thing ;) ? Maybe. But for some crazy reason I had to have this song, in all it's sappy goodness.

  • Top 5 no particular order
Bachman-Turner Overdrive - "Takin' Care of Business"
    Bad Company - "Bad Company"

    Rest of Top 10
    Goo Goo Dolls - "Slide"
Greta Van Fleet - "When the Curtain Falls"
Joe Jackson - "Is She Really Going Out With Him?"
    Matchbox Twenty - "Unwell"
Billy Squier - "Lonely is the Night"
    Honorable mentions including guilty pleasures
Jesus Jones - "Right Here, Right Now”
    Commodores - "Brick House"
Looking Glass - "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)"
    UB40 - "Red Red Wine"

    5 "Crazy on You", Heart
6 "Takin' Care of Business", Bachman–Turner Overdrive
    7 "Magic Man", Heart
8 "Enjoy the Silence", Depeche Mode
9 "Is She Really Going Out with Him?", Joe Jackson
    10 "Red Red Wine", UB40

    RBN re-release as #1...tsk tsk! :p
To be fair, I like The Touch a lot more than a lot of the "proper" DLC too, and it still wouldn't have made my top 10 if RBN tracks were allowed.
  • about half my top ten would be RBN if that was part of the rules

These songs are contenders for top ten for me is RBN is allowed
Five Finger Death Punch - "Hard to See"
Flogging Molly - "Drunken Lullabies (Live)"
    Drowning Pool - "Bodies"
    Stan Bush - "The Touch"
Flight of the Conchords - "The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)"
    Finger Eleven - "Paralyzer"
  • If RBN was allowed, "Australia" and the Band of Horses tracks would be possible contenders for me, and the 3EB and Stroke 9 re-records might even get honorable mentions.
  • 1. Enjoy The Silence - Depeche Mode
    2. Crazy on You - Heart
    3. Escape (the Pina Colada song) - Rupert Holmes
    4. Takin Care of Business - BTO
    5. Lonely Is The Night - Billy Squier
    6. Magic Man - Heart
    7. Baby Come Back - Player
    8. Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) - Looking Glass
    9. Reminiscing - Little River Band
    10. Right Here, Right Now - Jesus Jones

Honorable mentions go to Slide, Roll to Me, Run-Around, and Steal My Sunshine. Looking at everyone's lists it looks like the same songs are coming up over and over. In other words more 70s and 80s please. In particular Yacht pack 2, Duran Duran pack 1, and a Depeche Mode pack would be nice.

    1. Skid Row - I Remember You
    2. Heart - Crazy On You
    3. Status Quo - Pictures of Matchstick Men
    4. Joe Jackson - Is She Really Going Out With Him?
    5. Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
    6. Billy Squier - Lonely is the Night
    7. Heart - Magic Man
    8. Len - Steal My Sunshine
    9. Andrew W.K. - Music Is Worth Living For
    10. UB40 - Red Red Wine

These are also the only 10 songs I got all year, since we’re not counting RBN rereleases. A real shame nothing ever topped I Remember You, Andrew WK easily could’ve if it was an older track of his, but I don’t have much love for his newest album

Honorable mentions to these wonderful RBN tracks that kept me a bit more entertained throughout the year:

    Anamanaguchi - Airbrushed
    The Shins - Australia
Band of Horses - Is There a Ghost
Band of Horses - No One’s Gonna Love You
Band of Horses - The Funeral
Third Eye Blind - Never Let You Go
Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life

I haven't bought the Heart tunes *yet*, but I do plan to. Felt no urgency to spend pre-Christmas money on them when I'll quite likely have Sony giftcard money to spend this time next week.

But slotting them in where I expect I would:

    1. Graffiti - Chvrches
    2. Crazy On You - Heart
    3. Unheavenly Creatures - Coheed and Cambria
    4. Right Here, Right Now - Jesus Jones
    5. Broken - Seether ft Amy Lee
    6. I Remember You - Skid Row
    7. Magic Man - Heart
    8. Takin Care of Business - BTO
    9. Enjoy the Silence - Depeche Mode
    10. Broken - lovelytheband

  • 1- Crazy on You
    2- Takin' Care of Business
    3- Lonely Is the Night
    4- Slide
    5- I Don't Want to Be
    6- Broken
    7- Bad Company
    8- Cumbersome
    9- Stolen Dance
    10- Run-Around

    Honorable mentions:
    When the Curtain Falls
    My Demons

Amazing underground song of the year:
    I Hear the Dead
    ...

This is incredibly close to my list.

Just switch places of "When the Curtain Falls" & "Takin' Care of Business".

And replace "I Don't Wanna Be" with "I Remember You" and add "18 & Life" to Honorable Mentions!

I know it felt like this song came out in 2018, but it was released in December of 2017. ;)
  • Best DLC of the year that is fun to play as well:

Billy Squier - "Lonely is the Night"
    Heart - "Magic Man"
Depeche Mode - "Enjoy the Silence"
    Heart - "Crazy on You"
Jesus Jones - "Right Here, Right Now"
Bachman-Turner Overdrive - "Taking Care of Business"
    Culture Club - "Karma Chameleon"
    Commodores - "Brick House"
    Player - "Baby Come Back"
Rupert Holmes - "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)"

Great DLC that could have made the above list but is annoying to play on expert guitar (at least for this old fart):

Trivium - "Heart from Your Hate"
    Octavision - "Three Lives"
    Halestorm - "Uncomfortable"
Savage Garden - "I Want You"
Sister Sledge - "We Are Family"

    Best of the RBN Rewinds:

    Stan Bush - "The Touch"
Amberian Dawn - "River of Tuoni"
    Finger Eleven - "Paralyzer"
    Drowning Pool - "Bodies"
Fiver Finger Death Punch - "Hard to See"

    Best Freebie:

The Eiffels - "Body Like That"

There is a stark difficulty difference for me between the Hard and Expert guitar charts on Heart From Your Hate. It's pretty easy on Hard (and not very fun) and way too hard on Expert (also not fun) :)

It would make my top 10 RBN rewinds, but would just get edged out of a combined top 10 for me. Mind you, most RBN songs thus far have either been songs I got before or ones I regretted not getting before.

On an unrelated note, Music Is Worth Living For is my unofficial #12, very narrowly missing out on a spot in my top 10 that's actually 11 songs since I can't pick just one of the RWBY tracks but wanted to have 10 different bands. Still not heard 99 yet.

Oops I unfortunately forgot that! I fixed it. Thank you. :)
  • I guess I'll try.

    In release order:
    • Bloodhands (Oh My Fever)
    • Lonely is the Night
    • Absolutely (Story of a Girl)
    • Cumbersome
    • Right Here, Right Now

It saddens me that I only made 1 DLC track purchase out of genuine enthusiasm as opposed to them being rivals challenge songs. It was released the first week of the year so 51 disappointed weeks followed and super ironic that the song was "Enjoy the Silence"! This compares to 13 tracks for me in 2017, 8 in 2016, and 10 in 2015 right after RB4 released.

Nah we only have one song named Broken. The other one was named broken. Huge difference. :p
  • 1) Heart - Crazy On You
    2) Heart - Magic Man
    3) Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
    4) Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence
    5) Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
    6) Del Amitri - Roll To Me
    7) Gavin Degraw - I Don't Want To Be
    8) Michelle Branch - All You Wanted
    9) Little River Band - Reminiscing
    10) Skid Row - I Remember You

Modern songs were just not going to be able to compete to have a chance to break anywhere near my Top 10, so I will mention I did enjoy Young The Giant - Simplify and Breaking Benjamin - Torn In Two.
  • 1. When The Curtain Falls - Greta Van Fleet
    2. Slide - Goo Goo Dolls
    3. Magic Man - Heart
    4. All You Wanted - Michelle Branch
    5. Reminiscing - Little River Band
    6. Save Yourself - tiLLie
    7. Lonely Is The Night - Billy Squier
    8. Run-around - Blues Traveler
    9. Unwell - Matchbox Twenty
    10. Torn In Two - Breaking Benjamin

Looking back at it, 2018 was a good year for DLC. Here's to an even better 2019!
  • I have these as my favorites and they all rank 1 in my book so rate them however you like

There was no question as to what was going to be my top 2! :D And thanks HMX for helping me discover one of my favorite concerts, 5FDP/Breaking Benjamin!

    1. "Torn in Two" - Breaking Benjamin
    2. "The Heart From Your Hate" - Trivium
    3. "Magic Man" - Heart
    4. "Crazy On You" - Heart
    5. "Bad Company" - Bad Company
    6. "Enjoy the Silence" - Depeche Mode
    7. "I Remember You" - Skid Row
    8. "Cumbersome" - Seven Mary Three
    9. "Slide" - Goo Goo Dolls
    10. "Unwell" - Matchbox 20

"Uncomfortable", "Broken", "I Want You" and "My Demons" are close runner-ups, with Starset being the most pleasant surprise of the year. Oh, and of course I mean Seether's "Broken"! But that should be a given! :p

  • Neither list is in order

    In terms of gameplay:
    Heart - Crazy On You
    Heart - Magic Man
    Octavision - Three Lives
    Barely March - Thinking Emoji
Jeff Williams ft Casey Lee Williams - This Will Be The Day
To be honest I can't even make it to 10 without including RBN. I didn't buy a ton this year, most of it looked too easy to be fun on guitar, especially those 999 lame free indie songs, which I played once and will probably never play again

In terms of music, even though I didn't buy all of the ones I'm listing due to not looking fun to play in game:
    Heart - Crazy On You
    Heart - Magic Man
    Octavision - Three Lives
    Barely March - Thinking Emoji
Coheed and Cambria - Unheavenly Creatures
Jeff Williams ft Casey Lee Williams - This Will Be The Day
    Matchbox Twenty - Unwell
Dexyz Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
Rupert Holmes - Escape (Pina Colada)
Greta Van Fleet - When the Curtain Falls
Nine Days - Absolutely (Story of a Girl)

This is actually 11 becuase there are the only 11 I was tempted to put. This was not a great year in terms of music I like, regardless of if they are fun in-game. There are lots of songs I feel neutral on that were released, but not many that I actually like. Way too much dull indie. We also got, what, two metal songs that weren't actually metalcore or hard rock? Barely any prog either.
  • Come on Eileen was December 2017 so technically you have 10 now ;)

  • My list is here!
