wikipedia said:
Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, author, musician, and a poet who has been a major figure in popular music for five decades. Much of Dylan's most celebrated work dates from the 1960s, when he became an informal chronicler and a reluctant figurehead of American unrest. A number of his songs, such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'",[1] became anthems of the anti-war and civil rights movements. His most recent studio album, Modern Times, released on August 29, 2006, entered the U.S. album chart at number one, and that same year was named Album of the Year by Rolling Stone magazine.[2]

Oh I can't wait to see who you pair Neil Diamond up with :D

This one's kind of one-sided, huh? I actually like Donovan a lot. There's a seen in Don't Look Back where he and Dylan actually play one of Donovan's songs on a couch in some hotel room or some place. But he's no match for Bobby.

Might be better just to concede Bob wins and make the battle for second place

The only match that's even close for Bob: Joni Mitchell

i went with Donovan as a matchup cuz the Scotsman (from what I have read) is oft.-considered the European Bob Dylan

I chose Donovan for my choice, I personally think Bobby is a better songwriter, but, Donovan isnt too shabby and performs a lil better IMO

I have to go with Bob Dylan on this one. His 40 years of output simply outweighs anyone... He is still putting out great albums.

Old Fogey has a point though, Joni is a very clever songwritter.

Tough choice. I'm going with Dylan. Much as I love Donovan, Dylan's better, in my opinion.

    Dan Fogelberg vs Phil Ochs

    Tom Cochrane vs Gordon Lightfoot

    Leonard Cohen vs John Lennon

Can't wait to see how these three matches pan out. Although something is telling me that Leonard is going to (somewhat unfairly) get trampled by John.

    I'd also like to see:

Feist vs. Bright Eyes (on a slightly more obscure note)
Bruce Springsteen (Nebraska-era) vs. Woody Guthrie
    Norah Jones vs. Randy Newman
    Carole King vs. Carly Simon
    Van Morrison vs. Paul Simon

Why call it unofficial? It's not like the battle of the bands were official. I picked Bob Dylan just because. I think he's a lousy singer, though.

I think you gotta make room for Warren Zevon.

    Why doesn't Elvis Costello rate?

My little known fave: Joan Armatrading

They both aren't good singers in my opinion, but Bob Dylan is the lesser of the two evils.

Donovan was/is the U.K.'s answer to Dylan. Too bad it was the wrong answer. :p

That should be a good match up.

For fun, here's a taste of Joan Armatrading:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=8XqiAvMtJ_8

    I'm also forgetting Marshall Crenshaw.
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=5XRisBy7k70

Marshall is one of those guys critics love, but never quite took off in sales. I'm a really big fan. BTW -- he wrote the title track to Walk Hard: THe Dewey Cox story.

Not sure Neil Finn should count, because he's been in bands like Crowded House and Split Enz, and really only had two solo albums (he's released two others with his brother Tim). But he's an all-time great IMO.

Yeah -- Elton vs. Billy seems really natural.

I know what you mean about Springsteen -- but think about Nebraska and Devils and Dust.
