wikipedia said:
Leonard Norman Cohen, CC, (born September 21, 1934 in Westmount, Quebec) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, poet and novelist. Cohen published his first book of poetry in Montreal in 1956 and his first novel in 1963.

Cohen's earliest songs (many of which appeared on the 1967 album Songs of Leonard Cohen) were rooted in European folk music melodies[citation needed] and instrumentation, sung in a high baritone. The 1970s were a musically restless period in which his influences broadened to encompass pop, cabaret and world music. Since the 1980s he has typically sung in lower registers (bass baritone and bass), with accompaniment from electronic synthesizers and female backing singers.

His work often explores the themes of religion, isolation, sexuality, and complex interpersonal relationships.

Cohen's songs and poetry have influenced many other singer-songwriters, and more than a thousand renditions of his work have been recorded. He has been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and is also a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honour. Cohen was inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with a speech by Lou Reed on March 10, 2008 for his status among the "highest and most influential echelon of songwriters".[1]

JOHN LENNON
wikipedia said:
John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940–8 December 1980) was an English rock musician, singer, songwriter, artist, and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. As a member of the group, Lennon was one of the lead vocalists and co-wrote the majority of the band's songs with bassist Paul McCartney.

In his solo career, Lennon wrote and recorded songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". Lennon revealed his rebellious nature and wit on television, in films such as A Hard Day's Night, in books such as In His Own Write, and in press conferences and interviews. He was controversial through his work as a peace activist, artist, and author.

Lennon had two sons: Julian Lennon, with his first wife Cynthia Lennon, and Sean Ono Lennon, with his second wife, avant-garde artist Yoko Ono. After a self-imposed retirement from 1976 to 1980, Lennon reemerged with a comeback album, but was murdered one month later in New York City on 8 December 1980. In 2002, respondents to a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons voted Lennon into eighth place. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Lennon number 38 on its list of "The Immortals: The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time" and ranked The Beatles at number one.

Stop calling this unofficial and just make it official!

I voted for Lennon for the same reason why I voted for Dylan... Didn't know the other guy...

I vote for Leonard. His blend of synth and folk was and still is quite unique, and he's an excellent songwriter, to boot. He's also a huge influence in the goth scene - the Sisters of Mercy even named themselves after Leonard's song of the same name.

I've heard of Cohen but don't really know any of his songs. I'm gonna guess that most people on these forums are the same way. and besides, Lennon is a legend. You can't beat him... unless you're Rush apparently, as they are 2 votes ahead in the BotB poll! This shall not stand!

I am a big Cohen fan, so I went with him sense it seems, in some imaginable way, people here do not know who he is.

    Both are great though.

Realized I thought I was in the other thread when I made my comment about other candidates.

Cohen is one of those guys I appreciate but I just don't connect with. I'm not an unabashed fan of Lennon post-Beatles, but I did enjoy his stuff more than I do Leonard's. So I'm not enthusiastic about this vote, but I went for John.

John Lennon wins all the way.

Even though most people agree/believe that Paul McCartney was the better song writer in The Beatles. :)
