Well in Smash no, you're not.

Musically, it's just too broad of a thing to be better than somebody.

Bring forth the grim and frostbitten!!!!
I don't know... even if, say, a metal fanatic listens to exclusively metal, he's still probably "better" musically than a casual music fan who downloads a few rap singles every couple of weeks on itunes, listens to them, and repeats the process.

I saw Foreigner earlier this year, and Jason Bonham was with them. Everyone was looking at the flashy singer, but I couldn't help but look at him... he was very good. Had a lot of John-esque fills, and even had a solo in the vein of Moby Dick.

I dislike Children of Bodom and find the entire genre of Melodeath to be boring.

The Motor City Madman wasn't those three.....

    He was hilarious though.

    ^^
Well I meant it as somebody who has knowledge to metal exclusively will have less of an understanding with somebody who has more of something like grunge, prog, blues, ect. I see your point though.

I guess that to me Matt Bellamy just sounds to much like Thom York..

I appreciate Muse's musical abillities but I just don't hear anything unique or special for them to be called the greatest modern band.
We're talking about Mastodon right?

    EDIT : BEST THING EVER

The album "Enter the Grave" by Evile is the best Slayer album released in the past 15 years

Sucks that Metallica wouldn't put any of their songs on RB2 :(

(Seriously, someone said they thought Run to the Hills was by Metallica)

Also, whenever people don't like bands I like, and show off rock bands I don't despise but think are just a tad "overliked" (ie: Coldplay, Switchfoot, other boring Alternative bands whose talent I respect but could never really enjoy), I openly tell them that I think that's fine if we don't have the same musical tastes, but on the inside secretly believe we can never be friends, and that my music is so much better than you.

PS: I have the best musical taste ever.

I think SSPU are better but I believe the Pumpkins are much more influential and I respect them a lot... but all in all both are great bands.

It's a shame Auf and James didn't wanna join Billy :(

    James Iha was fantastic :(

I kind of disagree with that one. Gun's N' Roses is a much heavier, aggressive band than Aerosmith.

The riff in Twinkles is very Smashing Pumpkins-like. But other than that and the phaser effect common in both bands' songs, there really isn't too much similarity.

    Naturally, it's a great song.

I hate the keyboard nearing the end of Boston's Foreplay/Long Time. It's pitch and volume kill your ears if you're listening to it with an MP3 player.

Still, GNR owes 90% of their sound to Aerosmith.

That's up for debate. Of course, there's also the question of whether or not the company that makes Twinkies would have sued them and gotten the album pulled off the shelves. And personally, I would go insane if I didn't get my Carnavas.
