I looked up Stolen Dance on Spotify, it’s got a staggering 395 million listens. This puts it at #3 in the most played songs this DLC year behind Believer (608 million) and a Sky Full of Stars (471 million)

So my guess is that this isn’t many of your prefered genre. Just like I couldn’t tell you what the top pop or country song is right now.

That means "number of Spotify plays ranking" is a terrible predictor if whether I will buy a song or not, because I passed on all three of those.
Only reason I didn't pass on Sky Full of Stars was because it was part of the spotlight pack for that season.

The thing is, we're not talking about particularly "current" songs or artists. Stolen Dance (apparently) came out six years ago, and I Want You eleven years ago. That's more than enough time for a song to totally vanish from the public mind.
    "April Rain" by Delain confirmed!

    (I WISH  )

Meditation by Yoon Mi Rae (AKA Tasha) confirmed!

Stolen Dance’s Billboard peak came in 2015. That it was originally released years earlier is pretty immaterial to its recognizeability. It’s onky had 3 years to fade from whatever memories it tried to plant itself in.

Take that times two and you would be correct. ;)

Seems to be a wonderful predictor...that you will not buy

My old home radio station does a weekly thing where they do new releases of the week, and play a ton of stuff you probably don't know/remember during other hours.

Just got a chance to check out this station. Current song playing: Doo-Wop (That Thing) by Lauryn Hill...cool! Went to their playlist and proceeded to not know the next 15 or so songs. Oh hey, there's that Janelle Monae song that was suggested in the prediction thread! Beastie Boys! Some RB tunes like Jane Says and One Big Holiday! Benatar and Joan Jett blocks. Bowie and Cher.

As I finish writing this, Queen Latifah's U.N.I.T.Y. came on. What an interesting mix of music on this station!

Also just checked out that station, and I'm very impressed. Just in the last hour or so they've played Gang of Youths, Lucy Dacus, Father John Misty, Wolf Alice, tons more I love...looking over the whole day, it just looks like they stole my music library and added a few other eclectic tracks. They even picked my favourite New Pornographers track. Very nice station recommend.
  • They're playing some old hip hop right now and I'm loving it. Deeper by Boss (bonus points for anyone who remembers that one). The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) by Missy Elliott...now I want this in RB!
  • Groudon199Groudon199 1 hour, 39 minutes, 52 seconds
I Want You has proper stems, and Stolen Dance doesn't (barely noticeable with equal audio levels).
  • Well, poop. I was really liking "Stolen Dance", but looks like I'm going to have to pass on it now. :(

Thanks for posting this for us Grumble!
  • I just bought "One Big Holiday" about two weeks ago. Looks like I should have procrastinated a bit longer on that purchase.

They aren't just XB1 anymore. Sony side shows same song sales.

Yes, this will be the 3rd week the sale is also on PlayStation. Unless I missed the first week.

I don't know that a sale will be enough to get me to pull the trigger on "Iris"...

I successfully procrastinated on this one! I almost bought it a few weeks ago too when it was included in a Rivals challenge and I think I actually forgot to go back and pick it up, so now I'll be 50 cent richer woo!

I was glad to find out that the guitar part in "I Want You" isn't as difficult as it appeared to be from the preview video. It's just a galloping strumming that can I easily downstrum. Some of the two-note to three-note chord changes are the only things throwing me off. Gonna have to add it to the luck-only FC pile for now though because I keep getting worse the more I play it.

Quite fun guitar and bass charts overall!

    Slight negativity:
I'm kinda meh on the alt-charting. Nothing too intrusive. Just the usual, "Guitar players have to always be playing something," sort of stuff with those single note sustains in the intro and later in the song right after the drum solo.

I'm really just left thinking "why?" on this sort of alt-charting.

Edit: My memory is bad, so I had to remove some inaccurate statements. Original post can be seen in Vexus' quote.

The only "bad" part was when the synth/keys or whatever those chord parts are ended up overlapping the actual guitar part coming back in near the end of the song. I'm never gonna be a fan of non-guitar instruments taking precedence over the actual guitar. Though I did give a slight pass to "Bad Company" earlier in the month.
All of this omg. Enjoyable song overall.

In broad terms, I'm even more against alt-charting than that. I get why it's done in songs without a real guitar part (though I'd argue they generally have no place in RB) - to give guitar players something to do. I find them immersion breaking, though. It's particularly bad when a part gets charted in place of the guitar.

Though I do find some instruments like banjo and mandolin less of a stretch, admittedly.
  • Still though, cherry cola for the win.
